POSTCARDS FROM CANNES Well it's Sunday and we have been here in the South of France now for a week. The day started early as the FrightFest Cannes contingent headed off on mass to see what turned out in the end to be a very fine French thriller called MR 73. When we arrived at the preview theatre we ran into one of the sales reps from a Toronto based company Cine Vault, who very smoothly talked Greg and me into going into see his film POKER RUN instead of our orginal choice. This was a bad move. From the moment the film started we just knew this was a stinker. Just perfect for FrightFest was the reps pitch. We stayed five minutes and bailed out to join the others in the next door cinema. We all attended The Works annual Cannes barbecue last night. Held in a villa down the other end of Cannes we ran into Ailsa, one of the FrightFest lovelies. Ailsa works at The Works, a UK sales and distribution outfit and was in town to help host the event. A very pleasant time was had by all. We then all moved on to the Fantastic Fest bash. Hosted by the ever generous Tim League it was his festival Karaoke night. I have to say that team FrightFest acquitted itself in fine fashion. Paul belted out his crowd pleaser Tainted Love and Alan joined the fray with a very tune-ful rendition of Please Release me complete with some impressive dance steps. I filmed the goings on and the footage might, just might find its way into the first FrightFest video podcast, which hopefully will be available in the next couple of weeks. Lets see. Finally, we are still looking to give away our bag of Cannes Crap. E-mail us with your reasons why we should give this to you. We have some crackers in so far, so get your thinking caps on. Enter here. Anyway, enough from me. I'm off to meet some UK film makers that have got in touch while we have been here. They want to discuss their film Stag Night Of The Dead and it's possible inclusion in the festival in August. So, until the next time. Ian Rattray. |
