THE NEWS - Brought to you by FrightFest gore newshound Paul McEvoy, who keeps you up to date on everything you need to know and a few things you probably don't, in the world of fantasy and horror.

RICHARDS IS DEAD BY DAWN

One of our FrightFest alumni Julian Richards director of THE LAST HORROR MOVIE and the forthcoming SUMMER SCARS is set to direct his new project DEAD BY DAWN in 3-D.

Following the exploits of a touring rock band called Romero (where have we heard that name before?) who arrive at a gig in Romania to find it infested by zombies.

Richards is scheduled to start filming the five million dollar project in Bucharest late 2009.

NEW FROM LET THE RIGHT ONE IN AUTHOR

Fest guest from last year John Ajvide Lindqvist the author of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN has just released his new masterwork HANDLING THE UNDEAD.

The plot follows some strange events in Stockholm. There is a heatwave and people can’t turn their lights out or switch household appliances off. Then news breaks that in the city morgue the dead are waking up.. and they want to come home.

In the UK Quercus books have published a gorgeous looking oversized trade paperback edition at £12.99. The film adaptation can’t be too far behind..

FANTASY HORROR RUSSIAN STYLE

Staying with the book theme, also just published is a new horror novel TWELVE. This comes from Brighton based author Jasper Kent and is set in Russia, 1812. I will keep the surprising plot under wraps but after enlisting a group of mercenaries to help fight Napoleon Bonaparte’s army, a Russian Captain comes to realize and regret the hell he may have unleashed upon his country.

Once again the first edition trade paperback is available now from Bantam Press at £12.99.
