Escape From London
by Jake West

CARPENTER REVISITED - In the horror genre, filmmakers are rarely just directors or writers – they are also almost always fans. On set you will frequently hear references made to childhood favourites – how someone was slashed up in this scene or how the monster’s face contorted in that scene. These cherished favourites inform, influence and inspire filmmakers in the decisions they will ultimately make on their own work. FrightFest and ID Films have invited some of its favourite UK filmmakers to revisit the work of perhaps the most influential genre director of our time, John Carpenter. In five exclusive specially commissioned short films, these talented filmmakers make his films their own.

Director: Jake West (DOGHOUSE, EVIL ALIENS) Inspiring Film: ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK

“Like most genre filmmakers of my generation I was undeniably influenced by director John Carpenter, and I particularly loved the character of Snake Plissken, the ultimate anti-authoritarian-anti-hero that so impacted and warped my teenage psyche it made me want to “stick it to the man” and make my own crazy flicks... and even wear an eyepatch! So in tribute to the maestro, Plissken, FrightFest and the best festival audience in the world... this year from within the walls of our festival prison I invite you to have some twisted fun and briefly Escape from London.”
