DinoMarabaseDINOSHARK - *

Directed by Kevin O’Neill, Starring Eric Balfour, Iva Hasperger, Aaron Diaz. Sci-Fi, USA, 2010, Approx. 92 minutes.

Released in the UK on DVD by Anchor Bay Entertainment on 2nd May 2011.

The polar ice caps are melting and hidden away in the ice, something unusual escapes and swims away. Three years later and back in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Trace McGraw (Eric Balfour) borrows his friend’s boat taking tourists and holidaymakers on day excursions. Trace gets to meet the beautiful Carol Brubaker (Iva Hasperger), who has majored in biology/aquatic systems, and is also coach of the local girl’s water polo team.

When Carol's friend Rita is tragically killed on the beach, everyone suspects a shark. Trace decides to investigate on his boat. When Trace see's a search and rescue boat eaten and destroyed in front of his eyes, he realises that this is not an ordinary shark.

Trace and Carol decide they must find and destroy whatever it was that ate Rita. Carol manages to track down Dr Reeves, a researcher, who has pictures of a prehistoric shark on his website (a Dinoshark). The creature has been extinct for millions of years, however what Trace saw must be a mutation which has adapted to live and survive in warmer waters. Now it wants to prey on the unsuspecting people on the Puerto Vallarta coastline.

Trace and Carol realise that the Dinoshark is heading towards the local Marina where the girl’s water polo match is due to start soon. They must do all they can to stop the creature, including enlisting the help of the initially disbelieving Victor, who runs the Harbour Patrol/Search + Rescue team. As the Dinoshark starts chomping through the locals and tourists, can it be stopped in time?

Dinoshark is more Roger Corman produced nonsense following on from the most recent Sharktopus, and directed by Kevin O’Neill (Dinocroc). If you have seen any of these films then you know what to expect, low budget, cheap effects, minimal storyline and wooden acting. If you like Z movies then it may appeal, but sadly the idea of these types of movies is starting to wear a bit thin now.
