I'm in a bar; I glance at my e-mails and what pop’s up? An invite to review the new ‘Lovers Guide 3D’ Blu-Ray.

As a 36 year old married man with two children, my reaction should have been the same as with any other film or TV show I’m offered to review. But instead I reverted back to the same 11-year-old boy that giggled so much when my mate discovered a porn video in his parent’s bedroom.

Why is it that with material such as the ‘Lovers guide’ or ‘Joy of Sex’ people in the UK either react with giggles or completely close off with embarrassment at the mere mention?

For those of you who have no interest in an in-depth review – I’ll answer the all-important questions first: Do you see everything? Yes. Do they actually have sex? Yes. Is it graphic? Yes. Do you see the ladies bits close up? Yes and yes also to the man’s erect penis. What about Blowjobs? Yes and close up. Ejaculations? Yes. Do they mention anal sex within a straight relationship? Also yes. And, finally how is the 3D? – Oh yes - all these scenes are in incredible high definition for the 3DTV (For anyone interested the quality of the 3D and high definition is very good). Right now that bits out of the way – the serious stuff.

Back in 1991 Producer Robert Page faced the same harsh backlash as many of the Horror filmmakers in the 80’s. Such was the controversy surrounding its release, Page faced charges of obscenity (although these charges were later dropped) and the film was released as an 18 rating.

‘The Lovers Guide’ went on to be the first non-fiction title to top the UK video charts and sold well over 1.3 million copies in the UK alone. It was translated into 18 languages and spawned a further 12 follow up titles.

Now in 2011, the original founder of the brand – Robert Page, is back to bring some new fun to the oldest way of human beings enjoying themselves and to top is all he has added HD 3D.

The Disc is separated into eleven-chapter s– Sex, Flirt, Desire, Kiss, Caress, Lick, Spice, Play, Penetration, Climax and Share. Each chapter then explains the different variations possible for each combination of coupling and how these relationships are likely to move to a full sexual relationship. Then from here it guides the viewer on the possible options available so a partnership can remain strong and have full satisfying intimate life together.

Oh yeah and in between all the information you’re taking in, there’s shitloads of close up graphic sex scenes in 3D.

Juvenile humour aside, this is a brilliant film and as I’m lead to believe has helped many couples over the last two decades. So is it still relevant for couples of today? We live in the age of people being over worked, underpaid and hit with all the pressures of the world, I can see how it could be easy to forget all the important things within a relationship that keeps it strong. The Lovers guide is just a fun way of reminding you. And as for the 3D element – well...Sex is fun and 3D’s fun, why not mix them. The 3D is a great way of keeping this product fresh for future generations.

As for me, what did I learn? Well firstly, when I proudly told my wife all the info I had learned from the Blu-Ray she told me -“all women already know that- it’s covered in every issue of Cosmo!” (Note to self... maybe this is a film targeted at men then?)

Secondly, “It’s OK to masturbate during Sex” – apparently. Thirdly, only 25% of women orgasm during penetrative sex – OK. Importantly, “Women should never ignore Men’s balls” – cool!!

And apparently “It’s OK to ask your partner for whatever you want during sex” – awesome, certainly making a note of that one!! (Although since writing this the wife has pointed out that this may not be the case)

DVD & Blu-ray Extras: Trailer / Making Of / HOH subtitles
