A group of friends are travelling across country to a vast forest to uncover aboriginal drawings that have not been seen for 120 years. They discover something there that will change them forever. The group of friends arrive at their destination. They begin to pass through a cave in order to shorten the journey however Anji has a strange panic attack and is unable to pass through and drive through the forest instead. Once on the other side the group set up camp and the atmosphere is very light hearted. They soon discover the drawings and there is a sense that this place is unusual. After Mel skinny-dips in the water hole she becomes feverish and starts to become primitive growing new sharp teeth. Mel starts to attack the rest of the group but her boyfriend Chad refuses to let the others kill her which they feel is necessary to prevent their demise. As a result another member of the group turns. Unfortunately it is Dance, the stronger alpha male of the group. With the group falling apart Anji steps up as the heroine (Sigourney Weaver style). Anji fears the cave due to her claustrophobia. However this cave seems to be the key to the story and the audience discovers that there is some kind of alien force or creature that has been laying dormant in this cave for some time. Facing her fear of the cave Anji enters at her own peril and discovers her friend Kris (who was dragged off by the creature earlier in the film) delirious and unable to make any sense. Kris is clearly distressed and has been impregnated by the creature. Anji then faces the same ordeal as the creature comes for her. She fights back but does she make it out the other side alive! This film is a very charming tale of a group of friends struggle with there primal instincts. Although the film may seem a tad cheesy and low budget it only adds to the films appeal. The humourous elements in the script draws you to the characters and makes them seem more real. Overall, this film has a great balance of humour and gore to keep you hooked and entertained. Give into your primal instinct. By Gareth Martin and Maria Phillips. |
