Out Now DVD, Blu-Ray 2D/3D DVD RRP £19.99 Blu-Ray RRP £24.99 Back in 2004 the world was introduced to a movie franchise that would go on to make just under $900,000,000 at the Box Office and millions more on DVD and Blu-ray. Saw, the story of John Kramer (The Jigsaw), became one of the most successful franchises in Horror History. Starting life in 2003 as short film, Saw tells the chilling tale of Kramer’s inventive yet psychotic quest to teach morals to people with a lack of appreciation for life and the lives around them. Fuelled by his own personal loss and terminal illness, Kramer teaches a whole host of victims the errors of their ways with the use of savage and deadly contraptions. For those of you who haven’t seen the last 6 movies – I will try to sum them up if a few short lines. Two blokes are chained up in a room, one saws his foot off, A ‘New Kid on the Block’ become part of the story, The Jigsaw gets some help, the Jigsaw gets really ill, the Jigsaw dies, a Policeman starts pretending to be the Jigsaw and lots of people get really badly hurt is some really horrible games that look a bit like the board game ‘Mouse Trap’. And there you have it Saw 1 to 6!! Now for Saw 7. The latest Saw film follows the story of victim Bobby Dagen (Sean Patrick Flanery – Young Indy) who became an overnight celebrity when he survived one of the Jigsaw’s sadistic games. When Dagen is drugged and bundled into the back of a car after one of his chat show appearances we find out the truth behind his past and how his whole Jigsaw encounter was completely prefabricated solely to make money. But in true Saw fashion, the ‘Jigsaw’ has an evil plan to teach Dagen the error of his ways with some incredibly nasty challenges based around the people he cares about most. Meanwhile Kramer’s wife is under police protection from present day Jigsaw (Detective Mark Hoffman) as she helps with their search to catch the psychopath. Hoffman threatens that the police force would do best by handing her over to him or suffer the consequence of his deadly wrath. But do they listen – No. And do they die in a nasty fashion – yes! And that’s pretty much ‘The Final Chapter’ in a nutshell. The rest is classic ‘Saw’ to the quality of the first two movies in fantastic 3D and with a really nice twist at the end. For all those die hard ‘Saw’ fans I would highly recommend purchasing a 3DTV to go with this disc. This movie is presented with very high quality 3D that really does jump out of the screen and add to the atmosphere and viewing experience. The opening sequence of the film with the public execution is particularly in your face and sets you up perfectly for a 3D rollercoaster ride in your front room. The latest chapter in the Saw movies is back to the old school storytelling and rounds up the franchise very well. I’m a fan of all the Saw films and happy with the conclusion to the story. There are places to go for future movies – but fingers crossed they’ll stop here. Seven films are enough for me – so unless I hear an eighth is the best film ever made, I think I’ll stop with Saw 7. I think it’s time to put the Jigsaw to rest – and Saw 3D: the Final Chapter is the right movie to do it with. Game Over!!! Special features Producers’ Audio Commentary Nick Gibbs-McNeil |
