One, two, Freddy’s coming for you… Oh no, not again! Yes Freddy Krueger, that 80s icon of fright, is stalking your dreams once more in the glossy remake of Wes Craven’s seminal horror classic A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. Only volcanic ash could have got in the way of knowing that FrightFest is offering you the chance to see an exclusive preview of director Samuel Bayer’s dark fairytale reboot on May 6th in the heart of London’s glittering West End. So if you haven’t entered our competition to win a pair of tickets for you and your dream demon of choice to attend this event, then make sure you do so now as winners won’t be drawn until Monday May 3rd.
How does Jackie Earle Haley measure up to Robert Englund’s mythical boogeyman? Can Rooney Mara slip into Heather Langenkamp’s sizeable shoes as Nancy, the loneliest Elm Street teen in the world? And how many of the iconic scenes we know and love have made it into the re-imagination from Platinum Dunes, the folks behind those FRIDAY THE 13th, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE upgrades?
Well, nine, ten, never sleep again…
From something totally new to a film FrightFest showcased last August to a packed audience. Philip Ridley’s HEARTLESS goes on multi-platform release from May 21st and if you missed it then do try and see this unique horror fantasy because it’s pretty special to us. Jim Sturgess was an absolute star performing two songs from the movie in front of the rapt crowd and his performance remains one of the best you’ll see in the current genre crop. Even if you have seen it already, see it again for all the clever details and colour-coded hints you missed the first time around.
it’s that time of year again, when Team FrightFest heads off to the Cannes Film Festival to make their final choices for the 2010 August line-up. Between you and us we already have some cracking titles you’ll be delighted by but we’ll be cruising the Croisette for the duration of the 63rd French institution and intend not to miss a trick to improve it. Paul and Alan already have their exhaustive screening lists compiled, Greg is limbering up to pounce on anyone famous for E-zine interview purposes, and Ian is making sure we get all the important party invites. You’ll be able to keep up to date on our likes and dislikes and all the glamour and gossip via our well-established ‘Postcards From Cannes’ section on the website. Au revoir for now, but keep a look out for a special event FrightFest will be hosting in late May you will not want to miss.
