FF Glasgow 2021

Surprised this hasn't been posted before - and that there's been no email flyer.

Slaxx

Some OK comedy, but generally weak.

Scavenger

A lurid bloody gobbet of Grindhouse.

Subtitles need proofreading. Or just running through a spellchecker at the very least... I'ts not rocket science.

Relic

Aaaagh no get it out of my head.

Halfway through I was feeling a really uncomfortable vibe from this as we watch an old lady struggling with dementia... (and her family struggle with their feelings) but then it somehow managed to turn the train around and really creep me out. NICE ending.

Broil

Terrible title.

...but the movie's pretty good. I got a bit confused by Luck (in... erm... both forms)... not sure if I missed stuff about her earlier in the film (and I can't just rewind to check!), but it seemed to work regardless.

Re: Blood Harvest

I'm frustrated by this one. I don't understand why 'they' are doing what they're doing - other than the mother. Or any idea what the 'rules' are. Why sacrifice the mother? After going on about defending their home, why does she leave at the end? The mother wanted to leave! That's why they argued! Do...

Re: For The Sake Of Vicious

See, now THIS is how you do a stabbing!

Oh, and this.

And that one.

And... um... can we get a mop in here, please?

Re: The Reckoning

Too slow for me... nice of the Devil to drop in but sadly just a cameo. Picked up at the end, but all too late.

The Owners

Superior tale of inept burglars picking the wrong house to mess with.

It's all Terry's fault.

The Pale Door

A bit uneven, this one. I enjoyed some of the acting, but without any sense that the

could be hurt, there wasn't much tension after the fighting started.

And this West was much much cleaner than the Wild West.

Don't Look Back

Fairly standard entry in the "I'm not crazy officer" genre. But we've seen it all before.

I did like the final twist... but then they immediately blew it with an unnecessary bird.

Dangerous To Know

Experimental, and about three hours long. Dunkirk-style music which sort of works, surprisingly. The bad guy... just ends up pretentious. He makes too many mistakes to be as smart as he keeps telling us he is. Some of the least plausible stabbings ever captured on film. Quite liked most of the actin...

Agreed, a bit sudden at the end - and his transition didn't work for me either.

Barbara nabbed the best line, though...

Re: The Sinners

Perhaps a symptom of the virtual fest, but I really lost track of this one. A few characters too many. And I really couldn't see that the strict religious school would fail to pick up on the Sins behaviour. Still, a lot to enjoy regardless.
