His DOWNHILL was a fun wild ride at FRIGHTFEST too @Shepherd's Bush scary place.
That's not my recollection of Downhill... or its reception... with one notable exception.

2012 was also the year of the Tulpa screening, which the documentary has a significant amount about.
I missed all that - saw Remnants in Discovery instead. In the 2012 programme, the first word in the Tulpla blurb was 'Giallo', which explains my decision-making...

why did he have a painting on his wall of the mountain and forest where he found the Bigfoot?
Yes. That was odd.

With the caveat that I walked out after half an hour and didn't see it all, I'm still baffled by all the fuss about this
That's perfectly understandable. The third act is the key to happiness.

I didn't really understand the effects of the energy drink.
My interpretation was that it made them fixated on doing whatever they'd been into in the first place - so the users craved drugs, the dancers wanted to dance... and they'd go postal on anyone who got in the way of their thing.

Spoiler:
Did anyone else interpret the ending being that the girl dies, or do we just put the final shots down to being part of the fantasy?
Spoiler:
That really annoyed me. I didn't interpret it as her death, but I did think that it was horribly cheesy... (cf studio versions of Brazil & Blade Runner)

Climax

5/10 - arthouse nonsense. I didn't care who lived or died... and it's just as well because I couldn't tell who did - indeed, the arty upside down final shot didn't even tell me who the villain was. Maybe a script and some actors would have helped... but I'm pretty sure this plot was doomed to failur...

One Cut of the Dead

9/10 - horror themed comedy. The second act is slow, but it's there to set up the hilarious third act, so stick with it.

The Dark

7/10 - some interesting ideas here, but it didn't go in the direction I'd have preferred and too much was left unexplained (for a change). In particular... why was Josef going to Devil's Den in the first place?

From the Newsletter : We have decided that having a flood of people walking out in front of the visiting guests when they are being interviewed due to other films starting or limited scheduled breaks is really not a good look. This is understandable... but another thing causing that flood is that t...
