Oh, and The Possession was a whole lot of old-fashioned fun and thrills - hugely enjoyable movie,

Re: FF13 - Highlights
For me, it was Dario Argento on stage and finding out that he doesn't compare himself to Bava, just the bloody critics do! He sees himself more as a follower of Hitchcock. I loved the whole Q&A. I'm glad I watched Hidden in the Woods, I like a good controversial film at Frightfest that divides o...

Re: The Possession
The Possession came with good pedigree with Danish director Ole Bornedal (of the two morgue-set Nightwatch movies - the original Danish language version and the US remake with Ewan McGregor) and producer Sam (the Evil Dead) Raimi on board the demonic ghost train to the heart of this Frighfest 2012 E...
Re: Paura 3D
A vibrant horror movie, suitably sick and tense, with three wayward youths having fun at a posh guy's villa and reaping the payback big time. The woman in this cellar was a mess of mystery; I couldn't make out whether I felt sorry for her, or just wanted to forget the evil beast forever by the time ...

Re: Under The Bed
This film was all very 80's-family movie at the start and came over like a cross between The Goonies and E.T (hey, that older brother was also the older brother in The Goonies and E.T wasn't he?). But then imagine a film where the young cast of The Goonies get sliced and diced by the ugly pirate at ...

Re: Outpost: Black Sun
I didn't think I would enjoy this one. It reeked of straight to video and I'm not a fan of 'modern day Nazi zombies on the loose' franchises, of which (this may just be my imagination) there seem to be many. However, this sequel to 2008's original 'Outpost' was a lot of fun. The gloomy, surreal, fai...
Re: Tulpa
No giallo, or few, have ever really featured stunning dialogue and wonderful scripts. This was no exception. But the scenes in the s&m club, the odd occult barman, doorman (or door hermaphrodite) and general sense of unease were rewarding. Set in the world of big corporate business, someone is b...
Re: Maniac
I found it hard to catch the night bus home after this one, convinced I was going back to a room full of nude mannequins with scalped hairdos patiently waiting there for me. I couldn't look my fellow bus passengers in the eye, I'd just spent an hour and a half looking at the world through a maniac's...

Re: Hidden in the Woods
I think that's a perfect translation, especially on a Monday.
Anyone who asks me how I'm doing, on a monday gets the reply; "Monday". That is all.

Re: Hidden in the Woods
This film was a Grimm-like fairytale horror-crime story with a big nasty injection of wicked humour. It's no surprise Hollywood has already snapped up a remake from the original director (currently in development). Hidden in the Woods earned a long round of applause at its Frightfest 2012 screening....

THE WICKER TREE & THE WOMAN (AKA CORN & CAVEGIRLS FOREVER!)
There may be spoilers ahead made of corn.... THE WICKER TREE & THE WOMAN @ FRIGHTFEST, LEICESTER SQUARE, 27th AUGUST 2011 The ending of Wicker Tree, a film that explores similar themes to the original classic Wicker Man from 1973, is what you might well expect it to be; there's a wicker effigy a...

VIDEO NASTIES DOCUMENTARY / DISCUSSION
Writing this a little hungover from The Imperial !! I've been told my reviews are rather long (!) so here's the edit - Great documentary. Marc Morris did us proud! Great clips. Loved the montage at the start. That MP was a right character. Mad as a hatter, but we love characters. Still, what an idio...
Re: Monsters
I thought I Spit would have been the biggest crowd pleaser for 9pm on the Saturday Frighfest (the biggest slot in the festival) but it's bound to sell out, whatever gets shown. I think, as a film fan, I like the sound of this movie, but at a genre fest, I'd want something a bit more horror-filled, b...
Re: Monsters
Ew, romance. Looked good, sure, but wasted without a worthwhile story. 6/10 jonbly, I really like your reviews, they make me smile, and they make the films come alive ... I didn't get to see Monsters, but I kind of guessed it would be like your review says it was, I still think I have to see this t...

Re: I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE
The other main problem was that Johnny and the sherrif end up suffering less than the other two, despite the fact that they're the key offenders... surely she'd save the best for the sherrif? *SPOILERS GALORE* I don't know, I think if I chose a way to go, I'd rather be tied up naked by a pretty gir...
