Re: The Holding
I thought this was very good but then it just seemed to fall apart towards the end. Above-average but nothing mind-blowing.

Re: Rogue River
Seen it before, seen it better. Contrived and annoying, all at the same time.

Re: The Theatre Bizarre
Pretty much what everyone else has said. Over-long, pretentious... I thought only The Accident worked (and should be released as a short in its own right), everything else had moments but somehow got buried underneath its own self-worth.

Re: Final Destination 5 - 3D
I really hated The Final Destination (FD4) but I have to say this one was a pleasant surprise. Yeah the acting was shite and the all characters were irritating but it was fun. The 3D worked well in some places too, in fact it's the only 3D film I've seen at the cinema where I'm glad that it was show...

Re: Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark
Average. This could have been great, but they showed the creatures too much. Too much I tell you! The original was creepier.
Re: Monsters
Although I loved the monsters and enjoyed the sfx scenes the slow love story did nothing for me. Most of the time all I seemed to see to remind me they were in an alien invaded zone were the constant signs - signs signs signs everywhere! Just in case you forgot the huge tentacled monsters that were...

Re: Isle of Dogs
Aaah, haven't seen Blood And Black Lace yet and didn't stick around for the Q&A, so I stand corrected on that.Um, actually the look of the killer is (as they said in the Q&A afterwards) a homage to/rip-off from Mario Bava's "Blood & Black Lace" - a 1963 film.

Re: Dream Home
I really enjoyed this one; gory slasher with a heart and social commentary to boot.
And based on a true story apparently too!

Re: The Tortured
No, you're quite right. Compared to the actors who played the parents, we're all approaching retirement age."MIDDLE-AGED? "
Re: Monsters
A shame that the trailers have mis-sold this film, as I think it deserves to do well. Instead, there'll be a back-lash of people slagging it off because they were expecting "monsters getting blown up 'n' shit". That said, I appreciate that this film won't be everyone's cup of tea but I did...
Re: 13 Hrs
Couldn't get into this one. Interesting ending but I think most of us realised the twist before it happened, which is a shame. Also, I just didn't like the performances, particularly the elder brother. I thought Gemma Atkinson was good though - here's hoping she gets a meatier role in the future. St...

Re: I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE
A rare case of a remake being better than the original, particularly in this day and age. Ok, so the rape was less brutal or gritty, but it was still pretty harrowing (the good performances helped there I think). And you gotta love the revenge scenes! "Whether I'd enjoy this as much if I saw it...

Re: The Tortured
Crappy film-making, crap script, crap dialogue, crap acting, fucking crap editing = imagine the biggest pile of crap you have ever seen. Well, this is bigger. Here was a great opportunity to present some interesting philosophical ponderings on revenge, how it makes us feel, who is the victim etc but...

Re: Cherry Tree Lane
Very well acted, horribly realistic and tightly directed. The only problem is that it had this massive build-up of tension and then the film suddenly ended without releasing any of it. But then, maybe that was the point. A good solid film but not one I think I would watch again.

Re: Tobe Hooper and the chainsaw massacre
Didn't enjoy Eggshells, although I'm not sure you're supposed to enjoy it. I found the psychedlic scenes quite cool, especially the one-man sword fight. But the audio was too loud and I think the Total Film guy tried to over-sell this way too much before the film started, which added to my dispointm...
