Re: A Serbian Film - PULLED from line-up
Whilst I suppose it's more practical to focus on the issue of why Westminster Council decided to insist on BBFC certification in the instances of ISoYG & ASF, and lament that such things don't seem to affect mainstream festivals, the real issue is definitely that both films, whilst breaking no l...

Re: The Tortured
This film was awful, but at least the last 40 mins were so bad as to be hilarious. Lots of ridiculous lines, my favourites were "I've researched torture a lot ... specifically for this occasion" & "Think of the worst pain imaginable ... it'll be worse than that" ... just drea...

Re: Isle of Dogs
Really didn't like this one. I'll admit that I really hate cockney gangster movies (but that's because the vast majority are awful) so I'm not an unbiased critic & there was a point in the middle where I started to have a bit of grudging respect for it, mainly because it was taking itself so ser...

Re: Tobe Hooper and the chainsaw massacre
Gotta post and give Eggshells some love, 'cause I really enjoyed it (even though the sound was so high I took to sticking my fingers in my ears during the louder parts). It was clearly of its time, and the 'plot' about the weird thing in the basement was definitely the weakest part, but some of the ...
Re: Dead Cert
Yeah, can't disagree with the consensus on this one, it was pretty poor. Began to get worried when one of the cast pretty much apologised for the film before it had started, asking us to understand it was just some people having fun and don't take it too seriously ... well, given I just paid good mo...
Re: Primal
Also thought the opening 10 mins was really dodgy, just had too much of the feel of the millions of no-budget teenagers go somewhere isolated and get killed straight-to-DVD films that are out there. However, once they got to the camp & things started happening I thought it was great, easily the ...

Re: Short Film Showcase
Completely agree with the above about To my Mother & Father, just a really great unsettling film ... one of the few things (in an overall really good line up) to offer genuine weirdness and be actually scary. Had that inexplicable but terrifying air that David Lynch nails so well, best thing I s...

Re: A Serbian Film - PULLED from line-up
Have to say I wasn't sure I was looking forward to it, but it's always sad & annoying day when adults are told what they can and can't watch.

Re: Piranha 3D (yay it's an 18 cert)
Have to agree with people saying the 3d was poor, only times I ever really noticed it were gimmicky bits or when something just looked weird ... but once the Piranha actually started eating people I really enjoyed it. First 40 mins were a bit rubbish, but it was never going to be a masterpiece.

Re: FRIGHTFEST 2010 LINEUP!!!
Just read the blog, in a way I'm glad 'cause I was really looking forward to Kaboom and was initially dissapointed it got dropped ... but, if that is Araki's attitude, sod him. It is very strange though, because who does he think actually watches his films? I mean, I first got recommended Doom Gener...
Gotta also chime in and give Black some love, real shame it started so late and was also quite long as you could see a lot of people gave it a miss ... it really was like an exploitation movie, with the plot whizzing along just throwing in every genre they could think of ... my only problem with the...
This one was like Hierro and Coffin Rock for me, seemed to be classily made, well acted and so on but just never really took off ... I usually find Barker adaptations to be fairly creepy, but this one didn't affect me at all ... think the biggest problem was that the premise of filming people's fear...

Really good film, probably tied for top spot along with The Horde and Trick R Treat ... period setting was superb ... the simplicity of the story and the way the tension was built was just excellent ... and the 'release' when it came was just as brilliant in its own right. Was a bit disappointed in ...

When Infestation started I was flagging quite a bit, I was tired and had a mean headache starting. Within about 10 mins all that was forgotten. What great film, it was everything a comedy monster movie should be ... fast, funny, smart, inventive ... although the characters had their backgrounds very...
