Re: BEST film of Discovery Screen
Amer is good in an interesting way (or is that interesting in a good way?) but as I've already seen that one in Glasgow I skipped it this time around. I really liked After.Life, and Wound just had that nice freakishness to it. But seriously, if you've grown up before Episode I like me, there was no ...

Re: Appluading Death Scenes
Okay, see, the way I look at these movies is: they are entertainment. Now, being entertained, having fun, can be quite a number of things: enjoying a well shot (killing) scene, marvelling at a great makeup job for a death scene, seeing a rather creative/unique/new way of 'dispatching' someone... or ...

Re: Red White & Blue
Okay, what was that? If I had to classify this type of movie I'd just call it a simple drama. And having said that I fail to see in which way it might connect to Frightfest, in what way it may have been scary. Oh, wait... it had some bits of 'gore' in there... and according to the director it was a ...

Wow, people, what happened to DoAF? Nobody here considering that one the bestestest of the day? I'm shocked! P
Re: Buried
Buried... was not prepared for this one, really...
I guess for me the surprise with this movie was the rather deadly end... which makes perfect sense, it's just that one was hoping that everything would turn out okay.
So yes, definitely a winner.

Re: Damned By Dawn
Okay, so this is supposed to be Evil Dead 4?!?! Yeah... right! If they had said that this movie is in the line of the original Evil Dead that would have been fine: cheaply made, pure B picturedom, corn, entertaining... but with the way ED has 'evolved' this is a gazillion miles away from what I woul...

Re: I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE
Okay, it's been 100 years since I've seen the original, I always feel tempted to buy the DVD but never really get my arse in gear and do so... so maybe the 'newness' of it helped me enjoying the remake, but somehow it all clicked for me in that movie: sexy heroine who only gets more stunning after h...

Re: BEST film of DAY 3
As much as I liked Monsters ISOYG just pressed all the right buttons for me!
Re: 13 Hrs
Okay, low budget... doesn't mean it's bad... just means you have to be smart about what you do... and here rests the flaw: the whole nekkid, hairless werewolves just doesn't work! This could have been a nice little movie if they had tossed it into a pot with 'Primal': no werewolves but actually huma...

Re: Dream Home
The biggest flaw of this movie is... the get to know your maniac's background scenes! I love HK movies! And I thought I'd get some over the top whackedness... which I did... only to have the momentum killed by the 'heroine' being shown having to deal with granpa, with money, bla... more of the murde...
Re: Monsters
Interesting movie... the landscape is pure eye candy. And while in some shots the CGI'd everyday aspects of life with the monsters looked a bit too CGI'd, overall it clicked nicely. Obviously, there is (quite) a bit of hype based on the 'he made the FX on his laptop', but this really only 'hype' if ...

Re: The Tortured
Hooray for another example of 'torture sells!' This movie... oh brother... how bad a script are you will to accept as a small screen actor to see your face on the big screen? Okay, we have the revenging couple... who are apparently such superduper jail springers that the guards don't stand a chance....
Re: Red Hill
Not going to call that movie bad... but, well, ain't going to call it good either... First surprise for me: it's set in Australia! Not that OZ isn't the new Wild West but it felt to me more like this should have been set in a dusty little hicktown post in Texas... okay, onwards pilgrim... the hero i...
Re: F
Hm... liked the movie... but after the director's opening speech calling it a 'remake' of Assault, well, I would have expected something a bit less 'die alone'... still, the hood were nice menacing in a non-supernatural, non-bumbling way, giving the movie the right touch of terror. Thumbs up on that...

Re: Isle of Dogs
Actually really liked that one... especially the music which yes, was too loud drowning out the dialogue... but I'm not yet going to blame that on the movie but on the print ;-) And what could be more fun than black coat, black fedora, white face mask? Well, okay, a woman with a shotgun trumps it I ...
