Re: Recommendations 2018

The Witch in the Window is not bad, if you like haunted house stories etc. The only discovery films I'm going to try and get this year are Possum, Tigers, The Devil's Doorway, The Tokoloshe and Our House. Usually try and get a lot more than that but think main screens look pretty good this year. On ...

Re: Goodbye. Doesn't feel like FrightFest anymore.

I don't really think the comparisons with LF are totally fair. FF is good for the under the radar films, that you won't see anywhere else. Also, although just because LFF always has the bigger, overhyped films - it doesn't mean they are actually amazing. Seen plenty of ok/mediocre films there along ...

Re: Goodbye. Doesn't feel like FrightFest anymore.

I have thought that the two previous years have looked a little weak on paper but I’ve still had a great weekend. I actually think though this year looks much better than it has for a few years. Even though Arrow has acquired Climax I was still expecting that to go to LFF so that is a definite scoop...

Re: Early suggestion for FF 2018

Satan’s slaves looks goood! I would love it if climax played but even with arrow involved seems like LFF material? The Nun would be cool but maybe won’t play, as IT didn’t last year. Border and piercing both sound great on paper.

Re: Psychopaths

I really liked it. Stylish, experiential cinema, not of the kind you often see. It looked and sounded amazing on that screen. One of my favourite films of the festival. Genuinely surprising, immersive and engaging - far more so than a lot of by-the-numbers stuff on the main screen. I think I am in a...

Re: Top Five FF17 Films

My top five were Dhogs, Our Evil, The Villainess, Killing Ground and The Bar. Honourable mention to Psycopaths. My least favourite was the charmless Leatherface followed by Death Note, Chucky, Alone and Sequence Break. All in all though lots of good stuff with a few pleasant surprises in films like ...

Re: To Trailer or not?

Deffo trailer. Have watched all the trailers I could find and has made me look forward to things I wasn't bothered about before (alone, death note, our evil maybe) and conversely, I'll probably skip a few now like the terror of hallow's eve and imitation girl, where I liked the sound of them on pape...

Re: Thoughts on the schedule so far?

Great to see the villainess and killing ground on the line up, after a bit of research I'm now also looking forward to alone, death note, tragedy girls, sequence break and dead shack on main screen. On the discovery screen I like the look of dhogs, veronica, cold hell and maybe our evil. To echo wha...

couldn't agree more. and main screen increasingly seem's like dumbed down rubbish for the masses. where's all the hard-hitting stuff?!

Re: Quality of films this year

Mentioned it in another thread but just wanted to say how much lower across the board the quality of films were this year compared to the last few years. There weren't any standout films for me, and no surprises either. Usually there are one or two smaller films that really impress but none of the ...

Re: Thoughts on Frightfest 2016

Venue was great. A lot cheaper with on-site spoons, poundland downstairs and cheap pints from the bar in the cinema. Also much bigger disco screens was good - there was always room and you didn't even need to have a ticket. Thought the line-up was ok but to be honest i think it has gone downhill in ...

Re: SPECIAL SURPRISE SCREENING - Speculation thread

There definitely needs to be more films with similar names:

Population zero/patient zero
Under the shadow/through the shadows
Beyond the gates/beyond the walls
We are the flesh/they were the flesh

(One might be made up)

Re: Pass Holder Discovery Screen tickets

i just went to get discovery tickets, worked well thanks buutt both me and my gf ended up with two tickets to films: she has two for HOSTAGE TO THE DEVIL, i have two for UNDER THE SHADOW. Not sure if best to send them back to Frightfest, can Ian help? Or, can send them to people who missed out and w...
