Re: Hello from Durham

Welcome to the forum! You'll probably find it gets pretty quiet around here from now on, as the main festival weekend is over and there's just Halloween and Glasgow to look forward to.

Re: Crawl

I just have to remember next time I'm trapped by an alligator in my bathroom to get it into the shower then slide the glass door shut. This was one of my biggest issues where I found it impossible to suspend my disbelief. The gator could smash its way through a set of thick wooden stairs in the bas...

Re: The Drone

Watching it with the Frightfest crowd was the perfect way for this to be seen, so try to watch it in a group so you can have fun with it. Absolutely. Had I watched this at home, alone, I would have likely hated it. However, with the crowd in attendance it was a great experience. Will I watch it aga...

Re: Bullets of Justice

I felt like this would have been better suited to The Duke Mitchell for its sheer bizarreness. I know we get some odd midnight movies, but this seemed too left-field even for that slot.

Re: Tales from the Lodge

I felt uneasy too, but only because I thought "Uh-oh, someone is going to take offence at that", however as a white cis male I guess I'm not well placed to judge whether or not it *is* offensive. Is it misogyny to have a female antagonist? Is it misandry to have a male antagonist? Homophobia to have...

Tales from the Lodge

Really loved this one after knowing next to nothing about it. Smartly written and great comic timing, as well as being very self-aware.

I was disappointed to see chatter online afterwards lamenting
Spoiler:
the ending as transphobic though.

Re: Air Conditioning

I had to wear long trousers as opposed to shorts and take a “fucking” hoodie with me to each screening. I was still uncomfortable on the super screen balcony, even wrapped up. Also uncomfortably hot outside because I was overdressing for the Baltic conditions inside. Everyone is different, I like it...

Re: Satanic Panic

Something about this just didn’t work for me, plus the whole “the 1% are all deviants/satanists/cult members/killers of the 99% [delete as applicable]” thing has been done to death - and much better in yesterday’s Ready or Not. 3/5

Re: Daniel Isn't Real

Not bad. With regard to the spoilered comments above, I assumed that he could only transfer to someone else if they were nearby when his current host died, like in the coffee shop at the beginning when he latched onto Luke. I suppose there was always his girlfriend, although I got the impression Luk...

Re: Spiral

The director said it had just been finished a week ago for the festival - and it showed. Some editing required to tidy things up a bit (we were never really shown anything to suggest that Malik was on medication, only one scene where it seemed like he was driven back to it by the stress of the situa...

Re: Ready Or Not

Hands down the film of the festival for me. Too much po-faced, misery horror this year and not enough crowd pleasers that we can unite and have a laugh with.

Madness in the Method

I guess you have to be into the whole Kevin Smith universe to get all the in jokes and references. As a standalone comedy thriller, pretty much a failure. 2/5

Re: Feedback

Solid thriller, good performances deliver a tense storyline. Wasn't keen on the way
Spoiler:
the clearly horrible bastard managed to get away with everything (again)
but I guess that happens in life sometimes. 3/5

2edgy4me. It's shot on 16mm you know. Surprisingly, I didn't utterly hate this like I thought I would, didn't love it either. 3/5
