FrightFest Glasgow 2020 (Glasgow Film Festival)

First of all obviously feel free to shift this into a 2020 thread in general. Its been a few years since I went to the Glasgow frightfest, before the refurb so I have a few questions to ease my mind. - Which screen is it held in? - Can someone confirm where I can get the passes from, I note the link...

Re: Spiral

A good central performance but far too heavy on the "you're not from around here, are you boy" messaging.

Few too many horror troupes (dead girl with long black hair and doll eyes) thrown in just to convince the audience its a horror movie rather than just a drama.

Re: A Good Woman is Hard to Find

Bit of a comparison to "A Lonely Place to Die" as a festival closer. A strong cast and performances, even budget Sean Harris was entertaining if in a twee way and it cracked on at a good enough pace and was about the right length. I found myself caring enough about the good and hating the bad for it...

Re: Rabid

CM Punk in glorified cameo to bring in his fan boys, plus stick his wife in too. I agree with the lack of impact the climax at the fashion show had, could they not have found a good 70 extras to make it seem less like 10 people sat around a curtain watching people walk. The part in Inbetweeners felt...

Re: The Black String

I actually felt it was ambiguous enough but found it hard to care in general. Good strong cast performances though.

Re: Satanic Panic

Another rich are rich because the worship the devil troupe, I expected to hate this but was pleasantly enough surprised. Bit like a toned down Detention, there is only a certain amount of Diablo Cody style sass I can take and at least Romjin brought some class to the piece but in the end I didn't ca...

Re: Eat Brains Love

An interesting zombie idea fails to make an impact in a bloated genre. Director seemed to be living out some high school fantasy as geek who gets both the hot prom queen and the hot geeky girl. Didn't like any of the 3 main characters and to be honest the only thing I did like about it was the endin...

The Duke Mitchell Film Party

Thanks Evrim.

And Alex.

And Russ(?).

And Graham Stringer for "Stay Away From my Girlfriend's Panties" - the best acted and presented "short" of the whole festival.

An enjoyable two hours.

Re: Madness in the Method

Smith lost it a long time ago and Mewes shows he never had it apart from as an amusing bit-parter.

Now please, just fuck off into the sea.

Critters Attack!

Some terrible acting in this, which probably saved the lives of Critters prefer flesh over wood.

Fun to see the Crites back but the diminishing return of sequels continues.

Got another t-shirt so that adds a point.

Re: Ghost Killers vs Bloody Mary

It did indeed go on far too long, almost like whoever wrote the script were trying to level out all input for everyone involved and so kept everything in no matter how crap it was. I started off loathing the characters but by the end was taken in and actually cared about their plight, so full marks ...

Re: Tales from the Lodge

as a white cis male I guess I'm not well placed to judge whether or not it *is* offensive. Is it misogyny to have a female antagonist? Is it misandry to have a male antagonist? Homophobia to have a gay antagonist? Racism to have a person of colour as an antagonist? Technically the antagonist in thi...

Re: Bullets of Justice

Benedict Arsehole? Another film with the "name" nothing more than a cameo. Not that this film deserves much deep thought but if we are to believe what happened up until the last 3 minutes was an LSD trip or a dream (believe me that isn't a spoiler) than that explains the completely non-linear, non-s...
