Re: Early suggestion for FF 2018

Not really a film suggestion, but a merchandise one. I saw loads of people with FrightFest bags (more messenger style than backpack), and learned they were the goody bag in previous years. As last year was my first year, I missed out, and even if going forward the goody bag will be a tote bag, it'd...

Phoenix Artist Club, Censorship & Free Speech

I don't know if this belongs in this sub-section, though I would like to think given the topic and the venue involved that it has some relevance to the us people who attend FrightFest. So on the 6th of May there was a rally in London, given the title "Day Of Freedom." To all intents and purpose it w...

Re: It (2017 Remake)

It's kind of like an R-rated version of The Goonies. Ha. That should be put on the posters. Agree with this review completely, though I will add that the kids in this were all very good and I didn't find any of the irritating but the film was not scary in the slightest, no tension, no real creepine...

Re: Overall Thoughts

Speaking for myself, I've always pegged FrightFest as a genre festival, especially for the last few years. The moans aren't aimed at the festival, there are countless threads about guessing the lineup and wondering which films will [s]be nicked[/s] play BFI instead; the moans if anything are at the ...

Re: To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story

Agree with what Chris says. Plus I could do with a lot less "looking wistfully into the distance" or "pouring sand through hands" shots but otherwise another great documentary shown at FrightFest and Hodder is a lovely man, sat near me during the screening of Victor Crowley, asked how my beer was, h...

Re: The Bar

Slightly too long and drawn out but well acted and nice characterisation and realisation.

One of the best of the weekend.

Re: Lowlife

Didn't know what to expect, the magazine write up and the film title didn't inspire but this was another standout film.

Well structured, demented, well acted, hissable villians and cheerable, sympathetic protagonists, darkly humourous and a nice line in violence and guessing.

Re: Dhogs

Well acted enough but just a bit dull and not really as clever as it thinks it is.

Plus when you need to loo but want to stay for the whole film, having title cards for each act it an added form of torture.

Re: Death Note

I too hadn't seen the Japanese stuff so went in expecting blue lit seens and 80s synth music and that paid off.

Far too long and then too rushed but OK despite the lead reminding me too much of Jay from Inbetweeners crossed with Gavin Rossdale.

The Duke Mitchell Party (No. 4)

Obviously not a film but it seems the cult of DM has arrived given that, according to Paul, by request it was put upstairs in the Prince Charles and then had to be stopped because there wasn't enough room, it was too hot, many people without tickets had just piled in and sadly many guests had to eit...

Re: Our Evil

Agree with Soapmaker, even though I'd spent some time convincing myself it obviously wasn't former WWE-wrestler turned actor Batista in the poster for this film still couldn't shake that he'd turn up, even in a small budget Brazilian horro film. Good atmosphere in this film which was absent from eve...

Re: The Villainess

After an excellent intro it just dragged.

Needlessly complex plot that wasn't as clever as it thought it was and action scenes that really should have been done with a few fixed cameras.

The film I felt let down by most at the festival and that is without reading up much on it.

Re: Top Knot Detective

I really would like a lot of people to go into this thinking it was a real documentary and not a Darkplace scenario.

Bit long but very good fun, up there with my favourites.

Re: Dead Shack

Good late night film but I only liked the Dad character and the young son needed his microphoned-haired headed ripping off.

Competent if uninspired and unoriginal.

Re: Overall Thoughts

I'm short so leg room is never an issue, what is an issue are the stair spacing on the Imax screen, they are not for anyone of any gait to walk up or down in any efficient manner. Upstairs in the Prince Charles is still quite uncomfortably hot sometimes, downstairs is lovely and it was the best plac...
