Re: Downhill

I don't recall mentioning rape in my original post anyway! While that is true, you did refer to women who were almost raped or raped (can't remember) by almost every male character in that other movie, as "sex objects", so you can see where I got that idea. All in all, as with most films,...

Re: Quality of films this year

The difference in quality between 2008/09/10/11/12/13/14 and 2015/16 is huge. In fairness, 2012 had quite a few people who thought the lineup was weak prior to Sleep Tight. Fairly sure I remember a topic about that on these forums. Agreed about 2016, to an extent, but... it can't get better every y...

Re: Downhill

Both the rapists in Into the Woods and the cultists in Downhill wanted the female victims alive. Surviving someone trying not to kill you is not a sign of personal strength and how long did the female lead survive after the cultists found out she wasn't useful to them? Exactly. Fairly sure the male...

Re: The Creature Below

This is actually a very good take on Lovecraftian horror. It may just be one of the most accurate. Possibly the best film of the year.

Re: Johnny Frank Garrett's Last Word

To be honest I wasn't comfortable with them using a death person's death that way in the film either. That makes it harder to really rate the fil on its own merits, so I'm not really sure what to think.

Re: Under the Shadow

This is a fairly disturbing movie and its was easy to empathise with the main characters. Again, though, its inevitably overshadowed by films with similar themes, mainly The Babadook, The Canal, The Hallow and Sinister.

I don't know what to make of this. It started off well, but things just got weird!

Actually a lot better than I thought a movie like this could be, even though some things could be seen coming a long way off.

Re: Red Christmas

Very interesting and quite funny. At least someone realised serious slasher movies just don't work anymore - there's no suspense when you're sitting through a "new" movie you've more-or-less seen twenty times!

Still, very good!

Very strange film, most people will probably either love or hate it.

Re: Bad Blood : The Movie

It wasn't quite what I expected. But for what it was, it was... probably pretty decent. In truth I've forgotten much of it already, other than the psycho detective, who was quite interesting.

Re: Train to Busan

"Apocalyptic" and "post-apocalyptic" stories are usually too dull and lifeless for me. But this actually had some good characters and was quite funny often.

Re: The Windmill Massacre

It takes a lot to make a slasher movie that's actually scary or generally capable of being taken seriously these days. These guys didn't quite manage that, but they certainly tried very hard! I didnt know throwing a dead bird at a Bus could cause it to topple sideways and it was kinda annoying to su...

Re: Broken

In general theme and pacing, it was a bit like The Driller Killer.

In actual content, characterisation and such, it was much, much better than The Driller Killer.

Re: Monolith

Pretty interesting movie. Interesting that the super car was able to be seen doing some things a normal car couldn't.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of movies these days based on the fear of losing a child, so due to oversaturation, even better ones are vulnerable to beng overshadowed.
