Re: Discovery Screen Tickets

I've found the way to do it is click on the orange dot if it allows me to and then ignore the error message that says 'sorry, this seat has been booked by somebody else' and sit it out; ditto with the confirmation/delivery screens. It's so unbelievably slow to catch up with itself that the 'somebody...

Shelley

Pretty to look at but incredibly dull and ponderous, with unlikeable characters to whom nothing really happened. Fell asleep.

Lost Solace

I liked this a lot - it was very slick and the lead was an engaging enough chap although the girlfriend was wetter than an otters pocket and started to seriously grate by the halfway mark. Nicely shot with interesting effects and terrific editing, but I have to say I'm not quite sure where the horro...

Re: Warning to fellow Frighfesters selling on tickets

Even if it had been a straightforward PayPal transaction that had gone ahead, chargebacks are possible up to 120 days afterwards. I wouldn't touch PP for anything concerning an individual I didn't know (nor most of the ones I do :)). It's bad luck, but others will benefit from your post. My preferen...

Re: Vue West 12 vs Vue West End

If I go into my local town centre on a weekend night I'm guaranteed to see at least a couple of sets of ambulances and police cars pulled up and I never felt uncomfortable or unsafe for a second in Shepherds Bush. God, maybe I live in a shithole  By next year the Jubilee line will be on the nig...

Re: Beyond The Walls

Apparently Shudder have got it, so hopefully if it's popular with people streaming there'll be some distribution. I'd like to see it again if for no reason other than to fill in the bit I missed - even the unexpectedly sentimental (but just the right side of mawkish) ending was a delight.

Re: Best and Worst Films of 2016

Best: Train to Busan Pet The Unkindness of Ravens Devil's Candy The Master Cleanse Cruel Summer The Neighbour Honourable mentions for Beyond The Walls (because I fell asleep and missed some), Lost Solace (which I didn't find much horror in, but enjoyed very much despite a few plot holes) and The Evi...

Re: Vue West 12 vs Vue West End

I'm another convert who was unconvinced to start with - I had lunch out on the green and enjoyed the sunshine with the locals, having a triangle of Vue, Wetherspoons and Chinese buffet has been great (not to mention the Morrisons and fab coffee shop downstairs) and bar a lengthy trek back on the Thu...

Re: Beyond The Walls

I was enjoying this immensely but lack of sleep got the better of me and I annoyingly missed most of the middle episode. It was very soothing to look at and listen to and I'm endlessly grateful that I rejoined the living in time for the last episode. Elegant, accomplished and deserves a decent audie...

The Unkindness Of Ravens

I loved this. It could so easily have been cringe-makingly amateurish with a load of mates running around the Highlands in silly costumes, yet was involving, inventive, nightmarish and incredibly well done on a microbudget. The setting was appropriately barren and bleak, the central character was li...

The Killing Of America

This was pretty well attended given the early slot, although I was staggered to see how many people had never seen it when Paul asked for a show of hands. It was one of my more prized VHS's back in the day, but it would be at least twenty years since I last saw it and I was surprised at how difficul...

Re: Man Underground

I'm glad to see positive feedback on this because I really wanted to see it, but it was up against Monolith and I knew I'd need something shiny and low effort to follow The Killing Of America just after breakfast :). I'll definitely keep an eye out for it now, so thanks to all who contributed above.

Re: Quality of films this year

I'm in the minority along with the poster earlier, but I had a terrific weekend and saw some great films - a couple of so-so ones certainly, but the only real clunker for me was Abbatoir and even that gave me chance to leave and have a good sit down meal instead. I did think the opening night could ...

Re: The Master Cleanse

The most unexpected favourite of the festival for me, and like others I was reduced to a blancmange
Spoiler:
by the cutest baby monsters EVER.
Another which I think could do really well on general release if it gets a chance. I loved it, and I nearly didn't even see it.

Re: Monolith

I wandered into this thinking it would probably wind up as post-lunch nap territory, but it held my attention from the start and I thought the main character's performance was outstanding in showing the frustration and helplessness of her situation, as well as the endless (and universal) self doubt ...
