Re: Guests

Anyone know what guests we might expect to attend this year ? Would love for Sam Elliott but very doubtful Nothing official, but Barbara Crampton has tweeted that she'll be there for the whole week, which is probably necessary as she's one of the mentors for the New Blood initiative. As is Jenn Wex...

Re: Goodbye. Doesn't feel like FrightFest anymore.

Listening to Paul's comments on the Evolution of Horror podcast, he mentions that he hasn't seen the new Suspiria or Halloween. So maybe Frightfest doesn't fit with their release strategy or they're still tinkering with the films.

Re: Goodbye. Doesn't feel like FrightFest anymore.

Also: Upgrade is 100% mainstream. Could you tell me why its mainstream? Ive never heard of it and has none to little hype preceeding it. What makes something mainstream? Well, it's a Blumhouse production, the popular Leigh Whannell writes and directs, and it will get a cinema release. Like many of ...

Re: 2018 Lineup Announced

Do we know when the individual film pages will be added to the links from the main schedule page? I made a brew in expectation of an pleasant hour reading through them all/starting a draft Discovery list and it's all just Not Found and 404 errors at the minute <impatient> All working for me? There ...

Re: Goodbye. Doesn't feel like FrightFest anymore.

We get threads like this every year. It's often the case that the lineup doesn't look that exciting because these are films that haven't had a chance to build buzz. The festivals look better in retrospect when we know what the good films were. The OP holds up 2014's lineup, but I don't think things ...

Are the Q&A sessions only in this screen and for full festival pass holders?
No. The screenings in the two main screens are staggered by half an hour so that guests can do intros and Q&As in both.

Re: Early suggestion for FF 2018

Some more films that look interesting: Anna and the Apocalypse - Scottish zombie apocalypse musical. Has been getting good reviews from other festivals where it played. The Book of Monsters - Kickstarter-funded splatter film from the team behind The Creature Below which played the 2016 Frightfest. A...

Re: Early suggestion for FF 2018

High-profile horror at Cannes: Climax : Fellow art-house controversialist Gaspar Noe's latest. The plot seems to involve a dance troupe taking LSD and then having a horrific orgy. Unlike Von Trier's film, this has had a rapturous reception, winning the Director's Fortnight and getting highly positiv...

Please do all you can to secure HEREDITARY for August this year, as I expect most FF fans will be wanting to see that.

Big hit at Sundance, and looking like it's this year's The Witch/Babadook/Get Out/You're Next etc.
It looks great, but comes out here on 15th June.

Film reviews

Rather than start a separate thread for each film, I thought it might be easier just to post all my reviews together. My overall thoughts were that we got an especially strong Glasgow line-up this year, maybe the best since 2011, with a couple of stand-outs and a higher standard than usual. A pity t...

Re: From the beginning

I first did a couple of films in 2001 (that was when I turned 18), and 2002. Then I moved away from London and didn't return till 2008. My first weekend pass was in 2012 and I've been doing the full weekend ever since.

Re: How come horror cinema is still 50 years behind horror literature?

There's always a lot of retreads and remixes going on in most genres. There is indeed a lot of great horror untapped horror literature around that could be effectively adapted, but it's safer to copy something that worked before than take a risk on something new. This applies both to film-makers who...

Re: Best deaths of the festival?

My pick is the guy who gut his penis sliced off by a descending mile-high glass bell jar in Meatball Machine Kodoku. 2. Swinging onto the circular saw in Tragedy Girls 3. Felissa Rose getting her arm and mobile phone pushed through her alimentary canal in Victor Crowley 4. The woman getting her limb...
