Re: Adam Green and Downloads

But importing is giving money to a distributor who's paid for the film. You're spending money legitimately on a film that's going back to the filmmakers. It's not ideal for the UK distibutor, but it's not ultimately depriving the filmmakers of their due. It's also, you know, not illegal.

Re: Adam Green and Downloads

Interesting tangential debate regarding second-hand versions and loaning etc…etc… but Richard clears this up: only one version is owned and therefore paid for. If you want to own it new yourself, you pay for a new version. Simple. Out of print, long-unavailable films is the same grey area as demo tr...

Re: Red White & Blue

horror (n.): something that causes a very strong feeling of fear, shock, or disgust I think Red, White & Blue falls under that remit. If you pick up Kim Newman’s indispensible book Nightmare Movies (soon to be updated!), there’s a whole section on unconventional, urban horrors. It’s as diverse ...

Re: Short Film Showcase

It's all about TO MY MOTHER AND MY FATHER - just furiously executed horror without an ounce of knowing sass or diluting selfi-aware, smug snark. Exactly how a horror short should be: uncanny and unnerving. Can't wait for Can's eventual feature. Though if you're doing the other end of the spectrum, y...

Re: A Serbian Film - PULLED from line-up

Maybe they could replace the film with a BBFC Representative explaining, in person, to a FF crowd why we can't see a film he has seen. That could be fun, entertaining and perhaps equally as vicious as ASF! EDIT: Actually, isn't someone from the BBFC appearing on the Monday? Yes, I can't wait to ask...

Re: what dvds are we buying?

With DTS as well. It's a steal for that set which I don't think is in print anymore. Not the greatest transfer but....£2, you know. So, today's haul was: Close Encounters Of The 3rd Kind Watchmen: Directors Cut North By Northwest Public Enemies ...because I've gone and got all Blu Rayified and shit,...

Re: Top Ten Hammers - Alan Jones

Terrific! I finally plunged and bought the amazing Optimum Hammer Classics box and at least half of Alan's list is included in it (with a smattering of others available in the wonderful -- and very cheap -- Universal 8 film on R1 DVD and from Network here). In fact the I haven;t seen is The Annivers...

Re: films we just saw

Bronson Now, I liked A Single Man quite a bit and Colin Firth was very solid. But which single moment of Tom Hardy’s incredible performance *isn’t* better than the whole of Firth’s awards-lauded turn? Not that I'd expect Refn's archly artsy Kubrick homage to get as much attention as Tom Ford's midd...

Re: films we just saw

I remember the trailer had the best use of John Murphy's In The House... cue outside of the 28 Days Later films...

...I hope it's better than Dead Silence. There isn't a montage of twist-reveals as seems to be the Wan trademark is there?

Re: films we just saw

I say give it to Michael Winner and Roger Moore as a swan song.

Never saw Death Sentence: worth it? Talking of two films sourced from the same author imagine it is to Death Wish as The Serpent is to that story's same author's Get Carter?
