Re: Films for Halloween All-dayer?

Apart from RUPTURE, the rest of the lineup sounds low key and underwhelming.

Films for Halloween All-dayer?

Anything you are hoping for? Couldn't see a thread or new sub-section for it so thought I'd start one.

Wouldn't mind Takeshi Miike's AS THE GODS WILL or Kiyoshi Kurosawa's CREEPY.

Re: Quality of films this year

Sadly i agree that things have gone down hill (no pun intended) slightly. Do you remember when frightfest used to have a major players turn up like george a romero or john landis, hellboy with the cast and crew or christopher nolan, danny boyle or argento etc this year we had over 200 guests..........

Re: Quality of films this year

I've never really viewed the Discovery Screens as the "lesser" films, just alternatives, smaller budgets therefore less chance of exposure without genre festivals. Being honest I did so little research for the films this year that I was, bar 3 events, always in the Main Screening but to a...

Re: Quality of films this year

I mean, seriously, Shockwave Darkside - who in their right mind would watch that and think "this would be great at our film festival!"? As I mentioned in another thread (may have been this one), Shockwave Darkside was the same production company as Banshee Chapter. The latter had its worl...

Re: Quality of films this year

I'm sure one of the organisers said recently (might have been on here) that not all of the films selected are unanimously picked, and that one of them might really like it, and the others might dislike it etc. But that doesn't explain why so much shite gets through. For a group of blokes that have s...

Yup you're right, I'm still damaged by it. But my point still stands, last year and this year were poor.

Re: Quality of films this year

Last post on this thread I'm going to make about this but..... Have to say, for the first time since I started going to FF, next year will be the first year that I consider the choice of films on offer before deciding whether to go or not. Every year up until now I just blindly put my faith in the s...

Re: Quality of films this year

Mentioned it in another thread but just wanted to say how much lower across the board the quality of films were this year compared to the last few years. There weren't any standout films for me, and no surprises either. Usually there are one or two smaller films that really impress but none of the ...

Re: Quality of films this year

There were lots of big genre films this year that were due to release around the festival this time, including DON'T BREATHE, BLAIR WITCH and LIGHTS OUT as well as a couple of others, but none of them ended up in the schedule. Lights Out is already on release, so never in contention. Btw you could ...

Re: Under the Shadow

Felt like this should have been on the main screen. Understated, subtle and full of tension. The ending was a bit.....flat, but this was the best film of the festival for me.

8/10

Re: Quality of films this year

Difficulty is you have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. I'm sure they try their best to get the best line-up they can. I agree having mostly stayed in the Main Screen overall I think it was a weaker line-up than last year. But equally we did have some superb films like Train to Busan, Pet...

Re: Quality of films this year

Last few years Frightfest managed to secure the "big" anticipated films for that year (e.g. 2014 we got THE BABADOOK, THE GUEST and THE GREEN INFERNO and the year before we got YOU'RE NEXT). Those are all great films but "big" doesn't necessarily equal "better". I am a...
