Re: 2019 Discovery Screens

It's so hard isn't it. Seeing some people's Disco picks has me wishing I'd gone for that, but so many of them are on the Sunday, which is from start to finish essential viewing in the main screen to me. Hopefully a lot of what I'm interested in will make it out there, on BR/DVD or digital. There's ...

Re: 2019 Discovery Screens

38 minutes for the first ticket then the rest just zipped through. I bought tickets for Dario Argento and Dachra when they went on sale as I didnt want to miss out either of those. Otherwise I am seeing: Here comes Hell; Rock Paper Scissors; Sonata; Impossible Crimes; Witches in the Woods and The Wr...

Re: 2019 Ticket info.

I had the payment timed out message, then somehow got an email confirmation of a ticket. Shame I panicked and picked a really bad seat but I was just stabbing green dots wildly and waiting for the message to say it wasnt available.

This payment system isnt formatted for IMAX :D

Re: Heretiks

An endless boring cycle of: 1. Wander round dimly lit corridors exceptionally slowly 2. 'You ungrateful girl ! take her to (insert location)' 3. Demon appears and menaces unidentifiable nun in cell who does precisely fuck all and is then killed There might have been some good gore gags and make up ...

Re: Luciferina

But in terms of an unnerving sense of demonic evil on screen - LUCIFERINA really has it. I remember feeling that way after watching THE EXORCIST on the big screen for the first time... ****SPOILER ALERT**** ...and I don't think I've ever seen a sex scene quite so justified by context as it is here!...

Re: Best 5 of the festival

Either I was the only person here to see it, or I completely misjudged it but I’m amazed nobody else is ranking The Laplace’s Demon. Such a smart premise, brilliantly constructed with clockwork precision and looks straight out of the 30s or 40s. It had a real Fermat’s Room or (retro) Cube feel to i...

Re: Best 5 of the festival

In no particular order:

Crystal Eyes
Terrified
Climax
Luciferina
Incident in Ghostland

though it's a close run thing for numbers 5-7

Re: The Field Guide to Evil

I was glad this was a portmanteau film as that meant none of them lasted too long. That being said I did like the Turkish djinn story. I have no idea what was going on in the first one which appeared to offer equal amounts of sex and laundry but with no discernible plot.

Re: Climax

I wasnt expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the villain was revealed at the end via the references back to the audition/intro clips.

Looking forward to where they take part 2. This was funny and inventive with some great effects.

Re: The Laplace's Demon

No gore, but tense and menacing. Shooting it in black and white gave it a period feel despite the modern tech on show. Can't say much without spoilers but if you are familiar with the story which must have inspired this, then it's a fab take on it.

I agree also, this film was one of 4 Argentinian films I saw and I enjoyed all of them. Beautifully shot with great performances from the leading couple.

The discovery screens were much bigger at Shepherds Bush Vue, but that's the trade-off for moving back into the West End...
I feel bad for saying it, but I preferred Shepherd's Bush, took me a bit longer to get home but the seats had more leg room and there was a Poundland for snacks.
