just watched phantasm 4, finished off the box set and felt a bit unsatisfied. I thought the ending was too open to finish of a series of 4 movies. The script for "Phantasm 1999" was big and apocalyptic and violent... and no-one would stump up the money to make it. So Phantasm IV happened instead......

Caught Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation before Crimbo. It's so bad, it's... well, still bad. The best thing that can be said about it is that Renee Zellwegger's involvement creates some good material for an alternate ending to Bridget Jones's Diary...

That reminds jonbly of Miller's Crossing (a film about hats) and Wyatt Earp (a film about moustaches).

EXTE was quite a good laugh... though the LFF crowd sat there in stony silence whilst jonbly rocked in lonely silent giggles; mainly at the deeply loopy performance of Ren Osugi. It also manages to be a decent J-horror, too.

It's probably a Marmite film though.

man bites dog the violence itself is shocking and in the early 90s must really have kicked up a fuss. Maybe if more than five people had ever seen it, there would have been... but it never reached the mainstream. The point of the film is to show the documentary crew becoming active participants in ...

There were a couple of things about this one that bug jonbly. Six months later? The mind boggles. By day two you'd be ripping that house and outbuilding apart... The husband... your wife is showing definite signs of going crazy, and you let her spend two days alone in a house she believes is haunted...

Oops, nearly forgot to rant - this movie was shown in the wrong aspect ratio, and that always really annoys jonbly. Yes, the projectionists at Frightfest have to cope with a mad plethora of formats over the weekend... but it's frustrating to have to watch a whole movie like that.

Very much a straight sequel. Whatever you thought of Night Watch, you'll probably think of this one.

Interesting way to finish the second film in a trilogy! It didn't make much sense that the other Others remembered everything, though...

So much better than Hatchet. There are characters! And sets! And a plot! And yet... it didn't quite grab jonbly. Close, but not quite. Perhaps it was too long, or too slow, or too downbeat? The jazz score was a nice change. Does the title make sense to anyone? Mason doesn't actually get any more or ...

A ghost story well done... albeit without much originality (and that's without knowing the legend it's based on). Using the twin thing to create tension amongst the characters was nice, but it felt like it should have had more impact on the ghost situation. Interesting final twist.

The first two segments were pretty effective... but the third was a bit too slow for jonbly's liking. With such an unknown cast, jonbly's not really sure if any characters carried over from segment to segment - other than Goke obviously. The trick of 'One month earlier' really didn't help that - the...
