Emails

Gmail is blocking emails from Frightfest. I can report it as spam, I can report it as phishing... but there's no button to reset it to 'trusted'... so no images and no links. The email is shown as being from 'frightfest@mac.com via sendinblue.com', and Gmail's comment is that 'Gmail could not verify...

Re: 2018 Lineup Announced

Was there a newsletter to announce the line-up? I don't seem to have received one even though I completed the recent GDPR email. Still, thanks to DJ Benz I can read the lengthy note and start plotting disco films! I've seen nothing, either. Luckily it turns out that my goldfish memory can hold exac...

What are the chances of two films with Laplace in the title within 12 months of each other?
Used to happen a fair bit - though I don't recall it in the horror genre.
Thinking of the Columbus movies in 1992, or the Wyatt Earp movies in 1993/4...
At a glance, though, this one seems like a fluke.

Re: From the beginning

Donnie Darko in 2002, then weekend passes from 2004 on.

Three Halloweens, I think... one London, two Bristol.

Tragedy Girls

8/10 - Plural! Winner of the 'Least Plausible Kill' Award for impaling the Mayor halfway down a 20ft flagpole... without anyone noticing... while she's leading a march. That's some stealth skills that Leslie Vernon would be proud of...

The Terror of Hallow's Eve

6/10 - didn't really connect with this one. The Trickster... just looked too much like Dobby.

Top Knot Detective

5/10 - A good idea, but for me it didn't go far enough or fast enough. Flat ending, followed by a mind-numbingly funny coda.

Lowlife

8/10 - Lots to like here as the film winds through multiple viewpoints to give all sides of its story.

Still/Born

8/10 - Ermagerd, a scary movie at FF17. The fans are revolting (well it is day 5)! Personally, this worked well enough that I'd have left out the 'extra scare' at the end and just played it straight. Also, I kept assuming that Mother was going to show up at the house for wacky mistaken identity shen...

The Villainess

7/10 - An extended remix of Nikita - sharing some of the same set-pieces, but adding more plot and some frenzied (if wobbly) action sequences. At times the frame-rate just isn't adequate for the action. Confusing at times with multiple time-periods and face/name-changes.

8/10 - Manic fun, but shows its limited budget at times.

Double Date

7/10 - Pacing was a bit uneven, and some of the humour a bit weak... but still a decent enough horror comedy.

InControl

6/10 - Tricky one, this... like Shrooms in the sense that by its nature it's impossible to know what was really going on. Which, in the end, limits its effectiveness.

Killing Ground

7/10 - Pretty good example of the running-around-in-the-woods genre. But I need closure, dammit! What happened to Banjo?
