Growing wonderfully wickeder

I lost it with Barker around the time of the Harold Robbinsy Galilee and Coldheart Canyon I didn't enjoy at all. I agree with Daveroughcut that The Art, Imajica and Weaveworld are brilliant, but they are all a long time ago now. While King might not have produced a masterpiece in a while, his books ...

Re: Aren't we all the critics: Changing our minds on films?

@MaxRenn What do you think would be the ideal Argento starting point and why? I'm having a devil of a time getting into him (I know! Heresy ;-)! Suspiria or Deep Red , which are his two best movies for me. Suspira makes a good starting point especially right now with Black Swan being such a hit (wh...

Aren't we all the critics: Changing our minds on films?

Inferno - really didn't like it the first time I saw it. It was the first Argento I saw (probably not the ideal starting point). But it nagged at me, and nagged at me. A few years after was lucky enough to see it projected and decided it was a truly great and original horror film. Do not expect to d...

Re: VIDEO NASTIES DOCUMENTARY / DISCUSSION

I don't think we will see the start of another moral panic over this case I think Frankie Boyle has already knocked it off the hot topic list. One of the only good things about Tramadol Nights

Annoying Movie Goers

Properly trained, properly renumerated ushers and a one warning then you're out policy. Works for the Alamo Drafthouse apparently. It's not a majority that does this, it's a minority. It's time everyone else agreed not to stand for it anymore

Re: a history of horror with mark gatiss

It was really informative and I know absolutely nothing about early horror at all, I have always avoided it as it isn't scary enough for me. But that programme made me take an interest and it was so well put together. Some of those Val Lewton/Jacques Tourneur films are genuinely frightening if you ...

Winter's Bone - a completely engrossing mystery set in the wilds of Missouri. Terrific performances from newcomer Jennifer Lawrence and John Hawes (the unfortunate liquor store clerk in From Dusk Till Dawn). It's not a horror film, but there is genuine horror at the films icy core.

Re: Adam Green and Downloads

i wouldn't do this because I'm never that bothered about cuts but, is it alright to download the uncut version of a film after you have bought the only version available in your country? I would say that morally if you already bought the film in the only version currenlty available in your territor...

Re: Adam Green and Downloads

...if someone offered a service at say £30 p/month for music downloads then I would sign up today. Spotify's premium service pretty much offers that already. Although if you look into the amount of the revenue that goes back to the artist it's pretty shocking. I'm afraid it is always the little guy...

Re: Adam Green and Downloads

The fact is people are going to do it and in the case of frozen where it leaks before release, it's the distributors and what not that NEED to tighten their measures when it comes to protecting releases. I know folks in uk disti firms who get a warning for merely looming at a disk the wrong way :) ...

Re: Adam Green and Downloads

You can't have a film leak before release and then blame everyone who downloads it, the people protecting the property are the ones who helped it get there in the first place... It's bad yes but in some cases it actually helps a film.. Who was the guy that had his film hit the mainstream thanks to ...

Re: I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE

ewww... this one one castrated movie. it's been few years since i saw the original, but i don't remember final act of I Spit On Your Grave being one dumb gory titillation. the set pieces of heroine's revenge wouldn't be out of place in a Saw franchise and that is my problem with the remake. either ...

Scott Pilgrim vs the World - this seems to be shaping up as this year's ultimate Marmite film. I have to say I didn't fancy it at all heading in, but as it's Edgar Wright I felt I needed to see it. Sorry I doubted you Edgar, Scott Pilgrim is fantastic. I spent two hours with a big stupid grin on my ...

I so love that bit, made it a lifelong ambition to stroke a real live grown tiger. And lion and any other big cat.
Yes that's the bit, always thought that was the invention of Michael Mann, but it's in the novel.
