Re: Jackals

I loved the opening which had plenty of action and swapped genres before settling down on one, but I agree with the comments about the characters being stupid / unlikeable, while I felt there were some missed opportunities to really make an impact e.g. the filmmakers eschewed the chance to have a me...

Boots on the Ground

For fellow motion sickness sufferers I have good news for you as I managed to get through this OK, despite the use of body / head cams. As for the film itself it maintained my interest and there were some pleasingly suspenseful sequences along with a few jump scares, although it did benefit from the...

Re: A big thank you

Certainly echo those thanks - a huge amount of unseen work goes on both by Alan, Paul, Ian and Greg and by their helpers, the cinema staff are vital and of course it wouldn't be the same without the guests and the audience, so a massive thank you to all involved in any shape or form!

3rd Night

Not the most original film and similar tales have been told more suspensefully, but a compelling watch nonetheless. Some tense scenes and

a good sleight of hand, plus I appreciated the final twist ending too.
Enjoyed seeing this more traditional horror. 7.5 / 10

Re: Dead Shack

A fun mix of gags and zombie action. Light on suspense, but some good gory kills.
Spoiler:
The ending was strangely down beat though, especially after the whole family vibe that had been built up throughout the film.

Re: Leatherface

Gory thrills mixed with a guessing game but maybe lacking a bit of spark to make it more memorable. Whilst I appreciated the attempt to do something different with the story I wasn't overly enamoured of the period setting and for much of the running time it didn't feel like a Texas Chainsaw movie. 7...

Re: Our Evil

I enjoyed this one too - I thought it was going to follow a well-trodden path of an Exorcist rip-off but it ended up being refreshingly different. Some satisfyingly gruesome and gory scenes certainly helped, although I think the ending could have been even more suspenseful and gory to really top it ...

I nearly didn't watch this one, but it turned out to be one of the better films so far. I liked the mystery and twist ending, although some may be put off by

Re: Sequence Break

A cracking score and some great Cronenberg-style effects. I wanted to love this more than I did though, as the story felt underdeveloped and seemed to end with a whimper rather than a bang. I also saw the twist coming a mile off which probably didn't help with the ending's impact. Not entirely dissi...

The Glass Coffin

Some effective scenes and a good score, but overall nothing too remarkable. It did well with mostly a single location and actress, but I thought the reveal didn't work too well / convincingly. At times it felt like a Saw-inspired film, but don't expect huge amounts of gore during the fairly short ru...

Re: Psychopaths

Had been looking forward to this, but was disappointed - a pretentious film with numerous repeated scenes and camera work that was more often confusing than clever. The story threatened to become interesting a few times and I liked the nightclub scenes and part of the soundtrack (not the old music t...

Re: Death Note

I connected with this one, my favourite of day 1. I liked the main pairing even if the relationship developed pretty quickly, while a number of familiar genre faces in the supporting cast were good too. I enjoyed the story even if it took an unexpected direction early on - well, for me anyway, havin...

Re: Cult of Chucky

I didn't think this was as good as the previous instalment, which seemed to played straighter and was more menacing, whereas this became increasingly OTT as it went on. First half definitely better than the second. 6 / 10

there really isn't much of a separation between talent and fan
Case in point last year, when I came back from the loo in the Phoenix to find Barbara Crampton had joined the group I was with.
It seems you had been Replace [d] !
