Re: I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE

Very good update, although lacking the griminess, seediness and graphic scenes of the original. Still, in some ways I felt it surpassed the original, and there were some inventive deaths and a fair degree of resonance in the film. Loved the fish hooks! 8 / 10

Re: 13 Hrs

*** Spoilers *** Unfortunately I knew this was a werewolf movie before seeing it, while I guessed it was the mum early on. Still, kudos for the twists nevertheless. Some ropey acting and dialogue and poor decision-making by the characters hampered this one. But, werewolves in a house and Isabella Ca...

Re: The Tortured

Some may label this as torture prawn, but it could have been so much more graphic. There were some interesting dilemmas presented throughout the movie and I liked how one of the couple kept getting cold feet about what they were doing at different points, while the other wanted to keep going. The on...

Re: Cherry Tree Lane

Another topical film, with a look at modern-day "broken Britain". I liked the realism and the open ending was effective, while there was a fair amount of humour to be found in this one too. However, the middle act started to drag a little, while gorehounds will be disappointed as it was comparativel...

Re: Red Hill

A solid take on the Western, with a modern Australian setting. I liked the morality underpinning the film, but it was a little unrealistic at times (e.g. caracters failing to make the most of their opportunities to shoot the escaped convict) and there was some very corny dialogue. Nevertheless, reas...

Re: F

Topical with an involving plot and some tense sequences. It would be interesting to see an alternative version with more of the violence on-screen to see how that would play. Just about the best film of the day. 8 / 10

Re: Isle of Dogs

Dark, devious and occasionally humorous, a Brit thriller with a twisting plot, some gory violence and tense sequences. Also agree that Barbara Nedeljakova was good in this. I loved the giallo references and the style of the movie. 8 / 10

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: A bona fide horror classic. 10 / 10

Re: Tobe Hooper and the chainsaw massacre

Eggshells: Very arty and experimental, thought the climax was underwhelming, but it was different. Very slow paced and the underlying logic was never explained. I couldn't hear much of the dialogue due to the music, while too many sequences went on for far too long. However, an interesting reflectio...

Re: Dead Cert

I tried to like this, but Dead Cert is a bit of clunker I'm afraid. Not much fun despite the pre-film comment that it isn't meant to be taken too seriously. Neither horrific / scary / funny, while some of the dodgy acting only served to hamper the film. Perry Benson was on reasonably entertaining fo...

Re: Primal

Plenty of laughs and some good gore sequences made this the best film of the night. I thought the interesting angle at the end may divide audience opinion. Perhaps it is a little out of keeping with the rest of the film, but I welcomed the twist as it was a little bit different to the norm. My only ...

F17. Although I'm a bit worried about the serial killer (according to the programme!) in F18 that likes to skin people alive.......
