Re: HARPOON: REYKJAVIK WHALE WATCHING MASSACRE

Some good deaths, with a different setting, but the tone was uneven and it was pretty daft! Perhaps I would have enjoyed a darker, more brutal film more..... 6.5 / 10

Re: SPLICE

Reasonable enough, although it took a long time to reach the predictable outcome, which then seemed to be over very quickly. Some good production values and a reasonably well told story, but I felt they could have broadened and extended the scope of Dren's activities in the final act. Unfortunately,...

Re: [REC.2]

Decent sequel, that goes in a slightly different direction to the original, although some of the twists and turns in the plot don't really seem to add up. Some of the scenes are effectively tense and there are a few good death scenes. I just hope they don't flog the franchise to death - and I certai...

Re: AMER

Not really a giallo as expected, and suffers from slow pacing - so much so that about an hour into it I wondered if anything was going to happen! But the ending redeemed it somewhat and it will be very interesting to see this on a second viewing. The opening was very strong and a classic death scene...

Re: A LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN

Classic giallo for the event's retro screening. Plenty of new footage, especially at the start and one of the deaths, that I hadn't seen before. The film's strengths remain its psychological twists and turns. Still to be added to and polished up for the final version - hopefully this includes some o...

Re: STAG NIGHT

I quite liked this one, although some of the action scenes were too fast / indistinct, while the villains' credibility suffered from their daft grunting noises and lack of characterisation. Some of the action scenes were better handled though and there were a few memorable death scenes! Sad to see o...

Re: 2001 MANIACS: FIELD OF SCREAMS

Only slightly better than the now notorious Zombie Women Of Satan . A few laughs, a couple of decent deaths scenes, but all too often the humour fell flat, while the film also suffered from some poor acting. Some of the political / social commentary added a little more depth, but ultimately this was...

Re: FROZEN

Really enjoyed this, although slightly slow in places. I thouht the story was reasonably plausible, with believable performances. Overall good with some memorable scenes. Sadly no Adam there though! 9/10

I'm surprised no-one has yet mentioned the legendary Spanish classic from 1973, A Bell From Hell. Not really a giallo, but likely to appeal to those of us who like giallo movies, as well as though who like mystery / revenge thrillers from the seventies.

Thanks for all your feedback, I ordered the DVD and got it in time to enjoy watching it on Halloween night, while some lucky devils were at the Allnighter!

Trick 'r Treat DVD

I noticed that according to Amazon the running time for the UK DVD of Trick 'r Treat is 79 minutes, 82m for the US version (as expected as American DVDs are always 4% longer anyway), yet the version we saw at Frightfest was 95m, according to the festival programme. Does anyone know why there is such...

*** Possible spoilers *** Very good follow-up to a classic, although some of the new characters were a bit weak and I don't think there were as many memorable set-pieces as the first either. Perhaps the gore levels were lower this time around too, although the overly fast action sequences perhaps me...

*** Possible spoilers *** Not sure about this movie. I probably need to see this again and I may appreciate it more on second viewing. The big build-up at the start meant I started analysing the film too much instead of sitting back and enjoying it for what it was, plus a couple of things irked me e...

Skipped Case 39 to watch this and glad I did. A dark, Clive Barker-esque tale that I really enjoyed. One of the films that is likely to stay in my mind over the next few months.... 9 / 10

Watched Fragment on the Discovery Screen, as the trailer for that appealed to me more.
