Re: Films for Frightfest August 2013

Think the timings still need to be sorted out, on Friday there seems to be a film at 12 then nothing until 4pm, and there's 2 films at 6pm on Saturday.

Re: Films for Frightfest August 2013

Big Bad Wolves looks good, and I liked The Dead in 2010, so I'm looking forward to the sequel....rather odd choice for an opening film though, the sequel to a little known indie horror film, hardly a big film to kick the festival off....but hey, at least Hatchet 3 isn't the opener!

Re: Going it Alone

I went alone for the first 3 years, and 2008 and 2010 I had a great time and met loads of really nice people and have a crowd I regularly sit with now as a result. In 2009 I had the misfortunate of sitting next to a complete twat with major social problems who ruined most of the films for me, but af...

Re: Films for Frightfest August 2013

Insidious 2 looks likely as they're already showing James Wan's The Conjuring as the sleepy queue film.

Hope we get it, looks good from the trailer and I loved the first one.

Re: All Nighter Reviews...?

So was it better or worse than last year then? Was dissappointed by last year's selection of films (Bad Meat, Livid, HC 2, Faces In The Crowd, Cold Sweat and The Watermen), so I gave this years allnighter a miss for the first time since 07.

Re: Was FF 13 any worse or better than other years?

Of the ones I've attended fully, I'd say: 2008 > 2011 > 2012 > 2010 > 2009 This year took a long while to get going and had some dross, but once it got going late Saturday/early Sunday, it had some of the best FF movies I've seen. Overall a slight let down compared with last year though, but still n...

Re: "I found it very unconvincing, will there be a re-cut?"

this is the only time there's been any tension between audience member and director, since 2008 when that guy decided to put the director of Martyrs on the spot with his "Was that supposed to be an important film or just gory?" question. The only other tense Q&A I can think of was after Smash Cut a...

Re: Berberian Sound Studio

The Metro gave 5 stars to this today. They hardly ever give 5 stars, when they do it's almost always to odd films like this though.

Perhaps surprisingly they also gave 4/5 to Cockneys vs Zombies.

Re: Halloween All Nighter

Hi, do you know if you can buy individual tickets for each movie? I've never been to the all-nighter cause I know I'll sleep through half of it, which is sad really cause I suffer from insomnia, but never when I need it It's only tickets for the whole thing for exactly that reason - if individual t...

Re: Halloween All Nighter

What films are you hoping for? Better ones than last year. The line ups for the all nighter have been getting worse since the excellent line up in 2007, last year's line up was pretty dire - Livid was good, but when there were 3 of the worst films I've ever seen (Bad Meat, HC2, The Watermen) in a 6...

Re: The Possession

This was an epic fail - not remotely scary in the slightest. In the battle of the 2 big Hollywood movies of the fest, Sinister absolutely annihilated The Possession.

Re: "I found it very unconvincing, will there be a re-cut?"

I felt bad for the director Paul Hyett when he got asked that question, but since hearing that it was him who was on his phone talking and texting all throughout Tulpa I now don't feel bad for him one iota. I'm not sure why an actual director of a film showing at that festival felt it was OK to be ...

Re: The Inside

Very effective for such a low budget movie, very horrific and unnerving, you're actually concerned about the girls and appalled at their ordeal, you genuinely do feel for the characters I found, unlike in Hidden In The Woods. Shaky hand held camera stuff is always annoying, but here it actually work...

Re: Discovery Screen

I saw: We Are The Night - absolutely awesome vampire action thriller, with 4 sexy female vamps on the rampage. Was strange to see such a huge budget film in the Discovery screen, it was probably because it came out in 2010 in Germany, but I doubt many Frightfesters had seen it, so this really should...

Re: Maniac

Haven't seen the original (heard from some people this is better, other people that the remake is better), but this remake totally blew me away, absolutely mesmering. Elijah Wood failed with the psycho serial killer in Sin City, but he absolutely nailed it here, and I don't think I've ever heard suc...
