The Shining

So for some reason (possibly that reason being the booklet giving the running time as 146 minutes and the big poster at the VUE saying "rare screening of the extended US cut") I thought we were getting a rare screening of the extended US cut. Oh well, great film anyway and at least the non-rare scre...

Re: The Harvest

John McNaughton mentioned he was going for a fairy-tale feel, and mentioned Hansel and Gretel and the Brother's Grimm. But like you I thought of Secret Garden during the film - might have asked about that in the Q&A if it wasn't for the rambling monologue from the trained nurse and expert on the US ...

Re: The Harvest

Enjoyed this - the mashup of The Secret Garden and Coma the world has been waiting for!

Has the woman in the film four screen finished presenting her dissertation on the NHS yet?

Re: Shockwave Darkside 3D

The 3D was so bad I had no idea what was going on in any of the "action" sequences. In particular I didn't notice that one of the main characters had been killed until I realised she'd disappeared from the narrative. (I felt I needed to spoiler protect that, although the real spoiling was done by th...

Re: Disco screen tickets

Update on my situation with the barcode being kept by the cashier - went this evening to book another discovery screen ticket and after checking with a manager the very helpful guy printed me a new barcode. The screening I booked for (Dead Within tomorrow morning) had loads of seats left.

Re: Shockwave Darkside 3D

Just terrible. I sat through the whole thing, didn't get any better. Why on earth was this chosen at all, let alone for the main screen. Two main problems: 1. It isn't a horror film 2. It's shit Only positive thing about it is that it's a great way of starting conversations with total strangers - ju...

Turn off your bloody cigarettes!

A new menace in the screens!

Someone in row B of the Film Four screen last night was puffing away at an electronic fag, which glowed green each time! Carried on through the titles of Sin City but then he/she seemed to stop, thankfully.

Re: Disco screen tickets

Due to the late change in procedure I hadn't grasped when I went to get my tickets that they were all on sale immediately, and I was told that I had to do all my Discovery bookings in one go - and my barcode pass was retained by the (otherwise very helpful!) woman at the till. Think I got everything...

Re: How Film4 FrightFest will work in 2014

Was walking past the Vue just now and popped in on the off chance and am now £170 poorer :) Looked to be 3 or 4 weekend passes left in screen 5, not sure if that's the lot or if there were some in the other screens but she just checked 5 first My usual strategy of assuming I won't get a ticket then ...

Re: Saint

Enjoyed this, probably helped that my parents Dutch friends spent Christmas with us once so I knew about the Dutch Christmas traditions. I'd like to see a sequel set in Spain where Saint Nicholas battles the Caganer http://www.roughguides.com/website/Travel/SpotLight/ViewSpotLight.aspx?spotLightID=4...

Re: The Holding

Enjoyed this but got confused about what happened to the husband - so did they think they killed him and he wasn't dead? But surely they buried him?? Also wondered (being from Derbyshire myself originally!) why nobody in the village had a Derbyshire accent, other than the old guy who worked on the f...

Re: My Sucky Teen Romance

Agreed, really loved this one. Genuinely funny, and (hope this doesn't sound patronising!) a "proper film" - I was expecting something a bit amateurish! Was amazed to learn at the end that most of the cast were fellow high school students. Now need to seek out Emily's earlier films - interested to s...
