Re: Saturday in main screen. Thoughts?

Looks like an interesting day, the big decision for me is whether to see The Hypnotist or try to see Stalled. The guys from Stalled posted on their Facebook page that there are only six tickets remaining for the Saturday 24th screening, so the likelihood of getting one on the day seems slim. :( Alt...

Re: Mugshots!

Malky, are you the guy being menaced by the plastic chainsaw in the Horror Channel feature from 2012 (and the FF Guest list shot)? I managed to get a couple of sound-bites on that program. Unfortunately, in addition to my normal ugly fat-wolf-like features, I also had a scabby face from recently fa...

Re: Saturday in main screen. Thoughts?

I only just realised from this thread that "Stalled" had been moved from it's original time on the timetable... I really wanted to see that, and thought I would have to miss bound-to-be-guilty-pleasure of "Frankie's Army". :) Now I can skip "The Hypnotist" and I don't feel so bad about that... altho...

Re: This years Festival guests

Interview with the Big Bad Wolves directors: http://www.montrealgazette.com/entertainment/festival-central/Fantasia+Wolves+shows+lighter+side/8707151/story.html I was lucky enough to get an interview with these two guys. Couple of the nicest and most humble filmmakers that I've communicated with, p...

Re: Discovery Film Recommendations

I must admit, I've been very lazy most years and plumped my ass down in the main-screen simply because I couldn't be bothered to get up early to queue for a disco film. Bad behaviour really, but making sure I catch at least two this year. I do remember in 2010, Alan Jones being most surprised that s...

Shady Government conspiracy.
Probably only temporary until they do the 3D conversion ...
(Please note, yes I am being sarcastic and I know the film is showing in 3D on the main screen...)

Re: What does everyone think of the line up then?

Oh dear ... I see that R.I.P.D. has bombed badly in the states and got major crappy reviews across the board... (unlike the sleepy queue preview film which has done mega-bucks!!) http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/68815/conjuring-summons-big-dollars-box-office-ripd-comes-doa And there I was telling ev...

Re: What does everyone think of the line up then?

Kim Newman tipped Dark Touch, Cheap Thrills and We Are What We Are, on Facebook today. Is the 'We Are what We Are' a remake of the Mexican one shown at FF a few years back? I know a lot of people enjoyed it but I really didn't. I found it slow, predictable and rather dull actually. I'll give this o...

Re: Where Is Everyone Sitting?

D14-16 here Umm ... Kris? Are you absolutely sure that you have those seats? Because there's been a ma-hoo-sive f***-up if you have! I have D16 (and I'm looking at my ticket as I type to double-check) so if that seat's been double-booked, I guess there's some conversations we need with Empire. :s A...

Re: Discovery Film Recommendations

I'm definitely planning to see "Stalled" and "Wither", as they look great and have good advance word. Does mean I will be missing "Frankenstein's Army", but as that's on DVD by the end of September, I'll catch up with it then... I was tempted by Bobcat's "Willow Creek", but the trailer is just a tad...

Re: No headline guest this year?

I did over-hear one of the admin team talking about some guests who were very nearly here as part of the Total Film interview spot, but the targeted guest(s) spoilt it by being tardy and non-committal and ... dare I say it ... a bit sniffy about the whole thing. Good genre names too apparently. But ...

Re: 3D Films for Frightfest 2013

I don't tend to mind it although given the choice I tend to go for the 2D option. I would have made an exception for Pacific Rim but the 2D shows happened to be more conveniently timed. I don't think Rim lost anything in 2D. And when I saw Great Gatsby, Star Trek Into Darkness, Iron Man 3, Man Of S...

Re: 3D Films for Frightfest 2013

Yes, it's getting extremely irritating the way every big movie MUST be in 3D now, when it's always post-conversion and adds nothing apart from an extra 2 quid to the ticket price. In terms of FF, Final Destination 5 was great in 3D cos it had actually been made for it, with spikes coming out of the...

Re: 3D Films for Frightfest 2013

Ironically, two of my favourite films this year ("Iron Man 3" & "Man of Steel") are great, but I saw them in 3D IMAX, and the effects were absolutely POINTLESS and almost non-existent. Oddly enough whatever you think of the "Texas Chainsaw 3D" remake, the 3D effects on it were actually pretty mint a...
