Fairly simple generic set up, but excellent execution.
I liked the interaction of the different timelines, and totally agree on the aforementioned toddler in the background shot.
Great stuff

Re: The Bar
Absolutely loved this, one of my favourites of the festival.
Funny, clever, fast paced, and really well thought out. The constantly changing loyalties were believable and the characters were all great.

Re: Jackals
Perfectly competent, but not very good. Annoying witless characters, and nobody to root for. The baddies looked cool in their masks but that was about it. Once the sheer number of cultists became apparent it was obvious they didn't have a hope in hell, especially as they were totally unprepared. The...

Re: Halloween
Definitely a better line up than last year, and good to have the short films and accompanying guests, especially Matthew Holness. Same gripe as last year, due to it being a day event I had to miss Headshot in order to be able to get a train home as I live outside London (the same is true of Fright F...

Re: Quality of films this year
I think this year we're at a bit of a watershed point. Ever since leaving the Empire there has been a definite shift in the split and quality of films between the Main and Discovery screens. We are always reassured that we will continue to be able to keep a seat for the entire weekend in the Main sc...

Re: Thoughts on Frightfest 2016
Like you I spent pretty much all of my time in the Main (Arrow) screen with the exception of skipping Sadako vs. Kayako to see the extra screening of Beyond the Gates as I couldn't stick around for it as a late film. The screening rotation format across the main screens seems to be working well, alt...
Re: Broken
I thought this was generally good, but it had it's problems. Initially the film implied there was something supernatural going on with flickering lights, and shadowy figures that we the audience saw but Alaoui apparently did not. That didn't seem to pay off in any way, and was in fact just misdirect...

Re: From a House on Willow Street
Agree with what other people have said about the inconsistencies in powers etc. but the killer for me was all the endless wandering around doing nothing except being accosted by stupid zombie jump scares that ultimately meant nothing, when they knew exactly what they needed to do. Particularly stupi...
Re: Mercy
Looked nice, intriguing at the beginning, but became increasingly muddled the longer it went on. I wasn't that interested by the night's events the first time around, so the retell was dull and pointless. The twist was weak and poorly thought through, and the baddies justification for what they had ...

Re: Blood Feast
Jut truly awful from start to finish and in every department. Why the hell was this on in the main screen at the expense of films in the Disco screens that sold out in no time (e.g. The Love Witch) Only 90 minutes long, but felt like it went on for hours. Laughable performances and dialogue especial...
Re: Downhill
After Hidden in the Woods I was expecting this to be dubious trash, so even though it was indeed totally rubbish and made no sense I actually found it quite entertaining and fun. A total mess from start to finish, and had no idea what it was trying to do, so chucked in a ton of different ideas and r...

Re: The Windmill Massacre
From the off you could tell this had been put together with care and attention. All the characters were interesting and well written, some good dialogue, and nice payoff kills. I was thinking of Dr Terror's House of Horror or Tales from the Crypt while I was watching it, so nice to hear this was wha...

Re: Beyond the Gates
Really enjoyed this one. I knew an 80s style The Gate/Re-Animator film would be right up my street, and it didn't disappoint.
Great performances across the board, but especially Barbara Crampton who made me chuckle every time she was on screen, and Jesse Merlin who was hilarious.

Re: Abbatoir
After the execrable Blood Feast my worst film of the festival. Where Bousman got the idea that he'd made a 'Film Noir Horror Film' from I don't know. I'm not generally a fan of his stuff, but positive online reviews led me to give it a go. Managed to be incredibly simplistic and yet needlessly confu...

Re: Halloween All-Dayer
Enjoyed the day, but I had to skip ISOYG3 otherwise I would have missed my last train home. If it had been an all-nighter I wouldn't have had this issue, although I may have fallen asleep ! I think making it a day event meant we got a larger number of guests, but there really wasn't enough time to g...
