Re: Films everyone loves... except you!

Bill, I think the problem is you "got" Antichrist only too well. Not many that really make my blood boil, but these are really quite popular so I figure they warrant inclusion... The Dead Zone. Sorry, but the book bored me to tears and it was turned into a truly dull film. I could go on fo...

Re: films we just saw

Did you not think it an awful waste of an astonishingly good cast?

Just repurchased Race with the Devil, Freeway and The Burning. Old school fun awaits...

Re: films we just saw

Have to concur with Dug on this one. I like Marshall's films, but there was an air around some of the people at Glasgow which rankled, much more of a "them and us" vibe than I'd ever come across before. Jake West badgered me for an opinion on Doghouse, which I loathed, despite me doing my...

Re: The Horror Movie Genre is Dead!!

Hey! I like Wrong Turn 2 ;) Me too! Simply saying that rather than "progressing" from there to the likes of Pig (or, even worse, Wrong Turn 3), it might be better to look at the films that helped bring that sub-genre to where it is today. At the mo everything seems to be more more more na...

Re: The Horror Movie Genre is Dead!!

And surely that should be where we're arguing? Amer deserves a great deal of discussion because it throws the last five years of horror in our face and offers a broad reinterpretation of a historical form of horror. I totally understand why people didn't like it, and recall arguing with Voor that it...

Re: The Horror Movie Genre is Dead!!

I'd say Amer was truly great, but that's personal taste. Not wishing to sound obtuse, but I can't think of another TRULY great film I've seen in the last six months in any genre - lots of very very good ones, but I think if we get one or two truly great horror films a year, we're doing as well as an...

Re: The Horror Movie Genre is Dead!!

They do, but given the lukewarm reviews elsewhere on this site, it doesn't really surprise me they haven't splashed the film on every billboard. Only the really expensive turkeys warrant mass promotion, on the grounds they are "too big to fail". In general, I wouldn't say it is dead, but t...

Re: what dvds are we buying?

Picked up the Herzog/Kinski box set for a mere twelve quid for six films (cheers HMV) and also grabbed The Breakfast Club (still love it), Stag Night (awful - 2 stars at best), Waltz with Bashir and Thirst.

Re: films we just saw

Pig, which perhaps unintentionally, is still streaming http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/features/pig/index2.php is a genuinely awful film. It goes for every taboo - rape, necrophilia, "retards"... but it is truly awful. Joey Deacon could have played the "special" wife better and ...

Re: [REC.2]

The odd remake here and there ok I can accept. But it's just getting too much now. Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever made a remake of a remake? Historically, it's fairly common, but the most recent ridiculous example of things getting out of hand is The Amityville Horror. 1979 original, remade...

Re: [REC.2]

Tell that to Haneke! I used to agree with you, but thinking about it, I'm not so sure. I watched a good 20 people walk out of Diving Bell and the Butterfly once they realised it was subtitled, thereby depriving themselves of a great film. Not everyone likes reading their films and if something like ...

Re: [REC.2]

Nothing in the remake of LHOTL was even close to the brutality of the original - the rape was sanitised, the thugs far less nihilistic and, without giving away spoilers, the absolutely cop out change from the original story (if you've seen them both, you know what I mean) was pathetic. Rather confus...
