London Film Festival 2016

The full programme was announced yesterday and I've been scouring it for the horror! I've picked out some of the most promising looking offerings which have a horror slant, or at least a dark vibe. As always, the Cult strand supplies most interest. The one that intrigues me most at present though is...

Re: Vue West 12 vs Vue West End

To the chap living in South London, are there no buses? I guess we're lucky. We live in Zone 6 SW London and were able to take one bus each way, which cost us barely anything for travel and no accommodation required. There are 24-hour buses, yeah - 148 and 53/453 back to Peckham - but given the kin...

Re: Man Underground

I'm glad to see positive feedback on this because I really wanted to see it, but it was up against Monolith and I knew I'd need something shiny and low effort to follow The Killing Of America just after breakfast :). I'll definitely keep an eye out for it now, so thanks to all who contributed above...

Re: VHS of ‘Hellraiser’ keeps appearing on top of bus stop...

True story! I used to go past that very bus stop on Old Kent Road every day on my way to work. From the upper deck, I often spied said VHS tape on top of the bus stop. At some point, it was so weathered it was almost unrecognisable, and got replaced by a new copy. Never did get to the bottom of that...

Re: Vue West 12 vs Vue West End

Sounds like most people preferred the new location but I have to disagree. Living in South London, I always travelled to previous FFs from home each day but this year had to book a hotel nearby as driving/bussing/training it back and forth every day just wasn't on. I guess this isn't an issue for ou...

Re: No more phone warnings?

Yeah I contemplated the shhhh thing a couple of times as well but bottled it :s A couple near me were chatting during the films a fair bit, albeit very quietly. It's inconsiderate to others, that goes without saying, but more than that I just can't understand the mindset of talking when watching mov...

Man Underground

I'm surprised so few people seem to be talking about this one. It was probably the standout of the fest for me. Like Another Evil, testament to what can be achieved with a tiny budget when the idea, script and acting are strong. I like the fact it gradually becomes apparent that it's not really abou...

Re: Another Evil

So far, still my favourite film of the festival. I didn't feel the tone switch was a detriment to the plot. It felt more like a logical conclusion to me. Really enjoyed it! Agreed. I think it did the Creep thing of slowly revealing one character's insanity (though not quite as well as that one did)...

Re: Cell

This should be being hammered into the ground. The Blood Feast remake was straight up incompetent film-making, but this wasn't far behind, especially given the (presumably) far larger budget - a derivative mess of a film built haphazardly around a ludicrous central concept. The 'phone people' are ba...

Re: Sadako vs Kayako

Yeah, I felt the comedy was intentional. Japanese studios know when they're doing something goofy, and Sadako vs. Kayako certainly was that. I actually really enjoyed it, I was just disappointed that the actual showdown was so short lived. Ditto. There's no way the humour in this was unintentional ...
