A dubious double-bill today... The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift - To my surprise I didn't hate this quite as much as I hated the previous one; plotwise it's simplistic to the point of infantile, and there really isn't much in there beyond the pretty colours and loud music. I was somewhat distra...

Did we see the same film? I got back from Hard Candy abut half an hour ago and I have to say I wasn't much impressed. I didn't think it was particularly terrifying or gruelling or difficult to watch, and legs remained uncrossed throughout. One of the (minor) annoyances is that high-speed filming tec...

A few DVDs I've looked at recently... Christmas 2004, I think it was, my sister bought me the box-set of the first 6 Nightmare On Elm Street films and I've now, after 17 months, got up to episodes 2 and 3. I hadn't seen either of them in years and I was pleasantly surprised by both. Part 2 isn't ver...

Finally managed to see Silent Hill last night. Fantastic. Best/most horrible vision of Hell I can recall. Despite being over two hours long (an insane length for a horror movie - and IMDb claims the original cut was an hour longer than that!) it didn't drag. I'll have to check, but this could be my ...

Slither was a laugh. Not really that good, but not bad either. Good to see Gregg Henry again; he only ever seemed to show up in occasional Brian de Palma films. I didn't realise Gunn had worked on Troma films, and seeing four seconds of the Toxic Avenger on a TV set was the movie's low point. That ...

MI3's score is by Michael Giacchino (Incredibles, Alias, Lost) and I've read that it's fantastic. Can't wait for the score album. MI2 was scored by Zimmer and it's not very good, even by his standards. Better Zimmer action scores include Drop Zone and The Peacemaker; some add Teh Rock to the list. ...

Despite some nice riffs on the theme, the music is pretty poor, especially by Hans Zimmer's standards, and the song over the end credits is just plain cringeworthy, embarrasingly bad! MI3's score is by Michael Giacchino (Incredibles, Alias, Lost) and I've read that it's fantastic. Can't wait for th...

I also saw AMERICAN HAUNTING last week and wasn't impressed. in addition to the plot questions others have detailed above, a special mention must be made of the most overbearing score I've heard in years; not particularly good music, too much of it and mixed too loud for a lot of the dialogue to mak...

THE PINK PANTHER. Actually it's not really a remake, rather another episode in the series with an all-new cast painfully failing to fill their predecessors' boots. Steve Martin is wrong, Kevin Kline (subbing for the immortal Herbert Lom) is wrong, the music (despite incorporating the PP Theme) is wr...

Stay . Pointless and dull nonsense. The Fog . Even worse, though there's one half-decent scare effect (as with the original, it's the reanimating corpse bit). There are whole chunks of dialogue taken verbatim from the original. I picked up the score CD (by Graeme Revell) and it's pretty poor as well.
