Last night: STAY ALIVE. Nonsense (what if you're playing in an igloo or at 46,000 feet?) but effective on the shock level, though that's mainly due to a sudden dischordant BOO! from the orchestra. No gore either (PG-13).

Just got out of STORMBREAKER. Entertaining enough teen-Bond stuff but the near-constant thumping songs on the soundtrack got on my nerves (as they usually do). I can't actually see this becoming a series.

Saw Warrior King last night. Generally quite good, with some excellent combat sequences. What's particularly impressive about them is that they run with minimal editing - one goes for several minutes without a cut! And the fight in the burning temple is stunning. I don't think it quite reaches the p...

Bizarreness. The charmingly-titled NAKED MASSACRE (1976) is a Canadian psycho movie set in Belfast during the height of the running battles between the IRA and the British Army. A Nam vet stops off on his way back to the States and murders eight nurses in a house. Oddly, there appears to be no music...

Will have to see if I can check some out tomorrow, didn't catch much today as icecream was due to the (apparently Singer-requested, according to our correspondence from WB) interval... did spot the fancy customised Superman intermission tags though, nice! I mentioned this at my local 'plex this eve...

It's been a good few days. Got to see DISTRICT 13 last night ... it was alright, with some satisfyingly crunchy violence, but for some reason it didn't click with me. I was certainly expecting a showdown between the hero (Leoni?) and nutter gangster Taha and/or K2, and was disappointed when neither ...

Today was also Old Black-And-White Cheapo Public Domain DVD Day. Attack of the Giant Leeches (1959) - junky monster rubbish from Roger Corman. Not very good, but like Attack of the Crab Monsters I suppose it's a film true, true genre fans have to see.... The Screaming Skull (1958) - the old driving-...

Yesterday was Old Black-And-White Cheapo Public Domain DVD Day. The Bat (1959) - Old dark house stuff with Vincent Price, a masked killer, a spooky old house full of secret rooms, thunderstorms AND a suspicious butler. It's a bit hokey but I quite enjoyed it. Banned in Finland, according to the IMDb...

Went to see The Grudge 2 at lovely Cineworld this morning. Was not too bad, a few good tense moments... what is it about Japanese people in pasty blue make-up that scares the be-jesus out of me??? When is the American version coming out?? October 20th. The release schedule site I refer to is ...

No, I'll see D13 at my secondmost-local 16 screener. I don't really want to gloat again about the joys of a Cineworld Unlimited pass, but they are really rather wonderful (sorry, Imajica!)

Besides, I only have a R2 and R0 DVD player anyways.

It's a thin week this next week. PIRATES 2 is taking up most of the screen space and unless you've got more than 10 screens, you're not getting much else. (DISTRICT 13 is only on at my secondmost-local with 16 screens.)

I hear my DVD player crying at me through underuse. Must make amends.

Just got back from Half Light , which isn't nearly as much of a genre piece as I'd expected. I'd gathered it was a ghost story in the vein of the recent The Dark , but it turned out quite different, though in hindsight it wasn't that surprising. Overall it's not too bad, although the big plot twist ...

Is it bad that i've not seen any of the Spiderman films so far  I guess I need to catch up sometime this week! Saw the first one, didn't really like it. Didn't even bother with the second, since I didn't like the first one. Spiderman 3... oh wow. That's down there with fluffy Meg Ryan romcoms...

and an obscenity to be avoided .. Spirit Trap.. a film made by ignorant tossers who expect ppl to accept that in 1910s Hampstead london local people would attack a house with burning torches and pitchforks just because a white woman was romantically involved with a black man... Caught that on its c...

Majorly knackered after a faintly hectic day in London. FEARLESS is, indeed, pretty damn good. It doesn't touch HERO, but it's entertaining, viciously violent, with a lot less of the irritating wirework that sees the participants basically defying the laws of gravity (CROUCHING TIGER being a particu...
