Re: Boar

- What ideas have you got for a horror film?

- A giant pig and a former wrestler (and armed robber) sings Ice Ice Baby...

- Anything else?

- You need more?

Re: Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich

^^^ Very good. The editing and sound mixing of this film were all over the place. Needless deaths and no build up to anything that resulted in the deaths. The effects were very good and very near the knuckle humour, especially the Blood libel reference, so as regards a proper schlocky horror romp it...

Re: Braid

Budget Jennifer Lawrence, budget Jessica Chastain and budget Kristin Davis (though you could probably get the real one cheap enough since that Sex and the City money has dried up) scream at each other in a sea of purple and upside down camera work.

My least favourite of the festival.

This is my overriding memory from the film really.

A good film and well acted, yet another that could do with a bit of a trim though.

Re: Mega Time Squad

The final film on the Thursday and I thought the best, a nice steady increase in quality.

A smidge too long but enjoyable and lovable all the same.

Re: Frightfest: Beneath the Dark Heart of Cinema

2012 was also the year of the Tulpa screening, which the documentary has a significant amount about. While that was fun for the audience it must have been embarrassing for the organisers (especially Alan, who championed the film) to have to deal with the cast and crew after that, large numbers of w...

Re: Summer of 84

Want to get in normal male behaviour which is now deemed up-PC without upsetting too many people? Set it in the 80s. I too thought the dark turn at the end was a bit too stark and more could have been suggested about all not being well as the film progressed, ie the kid who live in the violent house...

Re: The Ranger

This would have irritated me more if it had been shown at any other time other than the first film. Oddly the middle part of the film was OK, the rest was just annoying. It seems FF2018 was book ended by two films with glaring soundtracks and hateful characters. Having said that I did like the way t...

Re: Heretiks

I suppose the question is just how many Paul Hyett films are we going to sit through at Frightfest before the conclusion is arrived at that *whisper it* - they are not very good? With all the talk of FF2012, it reminded me of The Seasoning House http://www.frightfest.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&...

Re: Hell Is Where The Home Is

Crap.

Nothing was to gotten from this film except possibly the people who make coloured lighting probably made some nice cash.

However it did inspire an idea for a film in me, so it gets one up tick for that.

I do like the idea that some people are visiting this thread thinking...

"Dark Screen? - I don't remember seeing that in the programme, was it a short?"

Re: DARK SCREEN?

Given the cluster before The Field Guide to Evil (and I'm also told the one after it) it is possible there was an equipment issue. Though as I've said in another thread, I'm unaware of modern digital projection equipment and while I don't recall last year having brightness as an issue, this year doe...

Re: What Keeps You Alive

It was refreshing to hear that the couple being lesbian was more a pragmatic thing, with the original male lead dropping out, than a concious one because I think it did play better and a bit more novel with XX vs XX for a change. And while I thought it was well made and acted, it was too long and as...

Re: One Cut of the Dead

He informed me that during their introduction Ian and Paul wanted it on the main screen but Alan overruled(?), make of that what you will. I've wondered a few times whether some of the Discovery films weren't on the main screen partly because the IMAX screen is too big for them to show well? I don'...

Re: One Cut of the Dead

That this was a last minute choice when getting Discovery tickets and that that lead to the biggest trauma when purchasing added to the film. Never have I felt so rewarded in seeing a film by blind luck. I managed to see the Friday screening and on recommendation a friend saw the additional one. He ...
