Brilliant! Which film was that?benj wrote: It's a shame we can't also have Ian's review in there to cut through the crap- at least one film he introduced this year he described as "It could be the biggest pile of shite ever" before clarifying "It's not, it's really not..."

Did anyone else feel that the film descriptions in the guide are often misleading?
The biggest challenge is to spot the marketing bullshit. Unfortunately the guide is full of it. I sometimes read the description before and right after the film. Calling "Downhill" Lovecraftian for example (just because of use of cultists) or using a Susperia reference for "Red Christ...

Re: We are the flesh
This is definitely the sort of thing that should have played the main screen: the quality is high, and it would have divided the audience but it would have become one of the talking points of the festival. It was also not the sort of thing to play on the morning of the fifth day: it's a heavy and d...

Re: Vue West 12 vs Vue West End
Not a big fan of the Vue chain as I find them little sterile. Picturehouse cinemas would be a great location!

Re: Quality of films this year
Last few years Frightfest managed to secure the "big" anticipated films for that year (e.g. 2014 we got THE BABADOOK, THE GUEST and THE GREEN INFERNO and the year before we got YOU'RE NEXT). Those are all great films but "big" doesn't necessarily equal "better". I am a...
Re: 31
Probably a new genre would be refreshing. A 70s werewolf film on acid with a nice soundtrack would be great! Something I believe Rob Zombie could easily pull off.

We are the flesh
A hypnotic ride, breaking boundaries. This film will probably earn a bit of hate as it caused some frustration. I absolutely loved it. People who like experimental films such as "Strange colours of your body tears" or "Amer" or anything Ken Russell, etc will love it.

Re: Under the Shadow
Also my festival favourite. Immense atmosphere and superb acting. In line with "Babadook" and "It follows" in terms of quality and meaning.

Let's Be Evil
More like "Let's be pretencious". The film invested its efforts in bad computer UI interaction (that did not add anything to storytelling) and repetitive industrial sound effects to simulate non-existent tension. Death scenes of awfully acted characters you don't care about were uninspired...

Re: Beyond the Gates
Really gutted I missed this as I was still on holiday travel. I definitely buy into the whole 80s nostalgia horror that doesnt try too hard. According to one of the actors film is getting released in the US in December and February in UK.
Re: Realive
Not too bad, but the whole film looked like a long HSBC or similar banking ad (probably intended). Too much waffling dialogue. The film was trying to explain too much and I didn't care enough for the characters to feel their drama.
Re: 31
Average "Running man gore horror".Really liked House of 1000 corpses, Devil Rejects but his films are getting so predictable and cliché. Wish he would break his own rules a bit more. Best soundtrack though and kudos for using older female actress.

I sense a bit of Horror-Hipsterism
"I liked horror films before [insert observation that will make horror veteran look badass].. and these annoying new people who will acquire better day pass seats and help keeping the industry alive."

Top 1.The Rotten Link 2.Turbo Kid 3.Rabid Dogs 4.They Look Like People 5. Aaaaaaah! Meh "Some kind of hate" (pretentious introduction in Horror channel made it worse. The fag/cigarette comment unacceptable and so the rest). Unsure.. Banjo - I always enjoyed Troma films, but this one bored ...
