Re: ACCOMMODATION 2013!!

I've also booked at HHH, and five nights at about £38 a night ain't bad for the West End of London on a Bank Holiday weekend. You're only really there to sleep and eat breakfast anyway, so there's no real need for the trimmings.

Re: All Nighter Reviews...?

I tend to put all my reviews on my blog these days! I'm really in the middle on EXCISION: it's hugely uncomfortable but nicely done. I loved the spaghetti western feel, the visuals and Namibian vistas of GALLOWWALKERS though I don't know that the film made anything like complete sense. THE TALL MAN ...

Re: Big Love To Alan, Ian, Greg & Paul But Seriously ....

I suspect the logistics of having three separate types of ticket to the Disco screen - full FF pass, one off film tickets and full Disco pass - for a screen of about 80-100 seats wouldn't be manageable. Besides, the films in the Disco screen repeat over the weekend so you'd be getting fewer films. T...

Re: Maniac

I'm still not entirely sure about this one: I'm puzzled by the point of it and the use of first-person technique. I think it's a better film than Lustig's original, which is a movie I have no great love for (for Joe Spinell and Caroline Munro, FANATIC / THE LAST HORROR FILM is much better, much more...

Re: Eurocrime

An enjoyable doc, though it could have done with better sound (some of the interviewees were not entirely clear and that's not to do with accents) and less of the animation. Like NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD with Ozsploitation (and definitely not like MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED and Filipino sleaze movies), I ...

Re: Sleep Tight

I liked it but didn't love it: I really wanted him to get caught. And it's a very cruel ending - is their no limit to this guy's vileness?

Re: Was FF 13 any worse or better than other years?

It was pretty damn good: there were no films I flat out hated (even HIDDEN IN THE WOODS is at least technically competent unlike some films that have been shown at FF). I believe they managed to get the balance right between light and dark this year - not too much in the way of grim torture, bleak s...

Re: Bottom 5 Films

The five films I felt least enthusiastic about:

HIDDEN IN THE WOODS
BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO
GUINEA PIGS
UNDER THE BED
AFTER

(and the last two weren't THAT terrible!!!!) :)

Re: Your Favorite Horror Films

Not sure if this is too late, as I've only been lurking recently. I've tried to limit it to one title per director. In alphabetical order: ALIEN DAWN OF THE DEAD (Romero) THE EVIL DEAD THE EXORCIST * OPERA PAN'S LABYRINTH THE THING (Carpenter) TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME VIDEODROME THE WICKER MAN ...

Re: Grabbers

One of my favourites and it's a shame that it's only getting a cursory cinema release before being shunted off onto DVD. It's terrific fun AND (unlike Cockneys vs Zombies) you do care about the characters. Effects are first rate as well.

Re: Berberian Sound Studio

It's bunk. Look, I like gialli, I like Argento, I like Italian horror movies, I like Goblin and I like Toby Jones. But this is a frustrating, annoying, pointless and tiresome Art movie that's really got nothing to do with any of them. Most disappointing film of the festival. And I wanted to like it....
