Re: Q + A's at Cineworld

Yes, glad to see them back, I never really understood why they were dropped last year. I enjoyed the Q&As after Daniel Isn't Real and Mary (although I didn't like the latter film). That said, I wouldn't want them with every film. Sometimes it's nice when there are no guests and you've got time t...

Re: A Good Woman is Hard to Find

Then it spoils everything with a cartoonish villain and the silliest plot turns I've seen all year, basically contradicting its tone. (seriously? the kid randomly screaming "Tito" while the bad guy looking for him is casually around?) Agreed that Edward Hogg was a bit too David Tennant as...

Re: Rabid

It was OK, but it never felt like the story was really building up to anything much. The ease with which the virus spread was very inconsistent. And some of the major characters - good and bad - were killed off in a rather offhand manner. I didn't go in with massive expectations, but after all the f...

Re: Air Conditioning

Row K of the Arrow Screen was cool enough to require an extra layer of clothing so I brought a hoody every day. Didn't mind at all, much better than being too hot.

Re: Nekrotronic

I wasn't looking forward to this but during the little animated sequence at the beginning I thought well, maybe it'll be OK. That was a false dawn. Totally incoherent rubbish. Endless exposition which only makes things more confusing. Things constantly being trapped in little boxes then let out agai...

Re: Mary

Rubbish Amityville Horror on a boat. It couldn't have been more cliched. I was a bit annoyed that Gary Oldman got not only top, but pre-title billing, I hope that wasn't at his insistence. He pretty much phoned in his performance and any redeeming features of the film were down to Emily Mortimer. Th...

Re: Ready Or Not

Another film driven by a great central performance from the lead actress. There were several of those this weekend. A bit of Get Out, a lot of You're Next... I was wanting Samara Weaving's character to do a bit more ass-kicking in the middle part of the film (after the hints that she was a fairly to...

Re: Bliss

I'm not normally a fan of films involving people getting massively fucked up on drugs, booze and endless partying... but Dora Madison's performance carried it for me, she made an essentially unlikeable character someone to root for and, ultimately, be somewhat in awe of. Fantastic music, I loved the...

Re: Knives and Skin

I thought at first it was trying a little too hard to be weird and occasionally shocking - a bit of Todd Solondz, a bit of David Lynch perhaps - but ultimately I enjoyed it very much. The big cast of characters were all effectively fleshed-out, without the aid of backstory. It seemed a bit neat that...

Re: 2019 Ticket info.

I can only compare with the booking process for the London Film Festival. The first couple of years they went online, their system was utterly shambolic. I booked my tickets at work one year and got so sweary, furious and destructive that I had to promise my colleagues that I'd do all future booking...

Re: 2019 Ticket info.

All settled down now. There are still about 30 weekend passes left, but all right at the front or at the extreme ends of rows.

Re: 2019 Ticket info.

I thought after all these years it was finally going to be the one where I couldn't get tickets. I guess that'll be next year. At least when we physically had to queue they didn't say "yes, I know it looks like till number 2 is free, but we're only prepared to serve you at till number 3, so you...

Re: Frightfest: Beneath the Dark Heart of Cinema

Thanks! A fairly limited list of films, as you say. The first couple of those, I can't remember if I saw tham at FF or elsewhere. Pretty sure I saw Donnie Darko at the London Film Festival, but my memory is hazy. It would've been interesting to look at more of the films and the changes over the year...
