Re: Bullets of Justice
Benedict Arsehole? Another film with the "name" nothing more than a cameo. Not that this film deserves much deep thought but if we are to believe what happened up until the last 3 minutes was an LSD trip or a dream (believe me that isn't a spoiler) than that explains the completely non-lin...

Re: Kindred Spirits
An average film with a very good psycho.

To Your Last Death
Once you get used to the style of animation and how the dialogue is written and spoken, just remember it is a live action comic and not massively high-brow entertainment, then is was an OK diversion offering something a bit different than the usual human flesh affairs.
Re: Cut Off
Nothing particularly original from things I'd expect to see on BBC4 Scandi-dramas or whatever other buzzwords are used (Nordic Noir sounds far too high brow). Well acted, especially liked the villain. Nice touches of dark humour but couldn't warm to the lead actor and felt a lot of it was contrived....

Re: Dark Encounter
Interesting premise, good effects bar the aliens looking like giant academy award statues. Laura Fraser seemed to have had a personality by-pass for this role and I don't mean that as a compliment in the way she played a grieving mother as the rest of the cast seemed to portray flesh well unlike the...
Re: Harpoon
A rather nifty and well acted morality tale.
Blackly told with a good amount of gore and, perhaps, twists.
Top 3 for me.

Re: Air Conditioning
Normal human response: As has been noted, it was boiling at the back, as obviously hot air rises, so what felt like a lovely refreshing blast as you walked into the cinema sometimes quickly dissipated into the re-revealing of the layer of smog & shit & detritus that builds up on you simply s...

Re: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
Reminded me of del Toro's Don't Be Afraid of the Dark remake which I also thought has its moments. I am getting slightly annoyed by 80s stuff and kid led films these days but it was a well acted piece and I thought the bed scene with no music was a particularly strong scare scene within the festival...
Re: Crawl
It knew what it was.
Pepper came across as a budget Michael Biehn but that isn't a slight on the actor.
Bit too many stupid decisions for me and I don't know how many attacks by an alligator I could withstand and still be a champion level swimmer.
Enjoyable romp.

Re: Come to Daddy
A great opening film and set the bar high, perhaps too high.
Great ensemble piece, pitch black humour, good creeps, good silliness, the only thing that really put me off with Wood's moustache.

Air Conditioning
In 2020, if you feel the need to complain about how cold you are in the main screen when outside there is a horrible heatwave in what is already the unpleasant hell hole that is Leicester Square/London, take a fucking cardigan in with you.

Dark Light
Wank. Good solid lead. Non-irritating kid. Other performances were pitched at hammy so that made it uneven to start with. Interesting idea. Good scene in the corn field. Creature design was like a spelunking Alien. Boring, predictable and the music was cheap digitised strings at completely the wrong...

Re: Knives and Skin
That I feel the need to comment on this film that I didn't see shows to me at least that from the write up in the programme alone I thought it would be marmite. Loved in equal measure by a certain type as it would be loathed equally by another certain type. I'll probably catch it later and fall into...

Re: Ready Or Not
The most entertaining and complete film of the festival which I expect to be the most popular despite others probably willing and lying to themselves that an indie film was better. If dicks and daddy issues started the themes of the festival then that quickly went into "rich are only rich becau...

Re: Nekrotronic
The big disappointment of the festival for me.
Had a ticket for StarDust Brothers but went for this one and we just let down.
Visually it was good, acting was fine but take out the swearing and you have a PG-13 kids film.
