Re: films we just saw

Although its not a popular opinion, I thought the Nightmare On Elm Street reworking was pretty damned good. Obviously its not as good as the original, or Pt 3 Dream Warriors, but few films are. Jackie Earle Haley is a fantastic Krueger, really dark and nasty... you really get the sense that this is ...

Re: films we just saw

Was really looking forward to Centurion, since the promo reel at Glasgow frightfest, Although its not as good as that suggested, It's still not a bad way to spend 97 minutes. The gory fight scenes are enjoyable, and its an exciting enough chase movie. Particularly With an abscense of good genre film...

Re: FROZEN

Thought this was fantastic, and my 2nd favourite of the weekend after Rec 2. What surprised me was the quality of the acting from the three leads, excellent. Their plight is nightmarish, and at times, it is quite hard to watch their suffering. "Open Water in the air" then, but very well ma...

Re: SPLICE

Thought this was really enjoyable, although the first hour of the film is the best, with a genuine sense of tension as the two scientists defy the corporation and carry on their "frankenstein" experiment. Was expecting the child to turn into some suitably yukky "fly" style monste...

Re: films we just saw

Just seen The Wolfman. Great fun, it is true that there isn't much depth to it, but neither was there any depth in most Hammer/Universal films. Fantastic Gothic Atmospere, and period detail. Great Werewolf effects, A surprise of a plot twist, and Benecio Del Toro is very good as Larry Talbot. Loved ...

Watched The Descent PT II, to see if it stood up, after enjoying it so much at frightfest.

Have to say it does, one of the best horror sequels infact. Well done to Johnathan Ross for giving it a good review on film 2009 !

There is another remake of "Amityville Horror" being greenlit according to Bloody Disgusting.com

A Remake of A Remake, I actually thought the Melissa George version was pretty decent, but this is incredulous.

Have just seen "Harry Brown" bloody superb revenge thriller. Michael Caine gives his best performance in years as the angry pensioner going after the yobs who killed his pal. Violent, and very Dark, darkest vision of the capital since Mike Leigh's Naked. As good as frightfest's "The H...

American Werewolf DVD

Just a mention - that there is a curious cut on the normal DVD version of American Werewolf that has just been released. The scene where David phones his parents to say he loves them, before trying to kill himself, is missing, bar the attempted suicide attempt, (which was so wonderfully spoofed by t...

For me, one of the films of the festival (also loved The Horseman and Triangle) because it had a really unsettling atmospere. I wasnt ecpecting much because I hated The Roost with a passion. Tom Noonan was particulary creepy in his role, and made me dig out Manhunter for a rewatch, still the best Le...

Just seen Last House On The Left (2009), at cine excess, covent garden. One of the best horrors of recent years, and I enjoyed it far more than Craven's original. How many remakes, can you say that about? Bloody intense film though. The Violence is on a par with Inside, & Martyrs. Quite Jaw dropp...

After being totally shocked by Martyrs, last August. Not sure whether I loved it or hated it. Saw it again at the ICA, on Saturday. I am definately now a fan. Masterpiece, the way it changes from a strong genre horror into something far far worse is utterly unique. It caused quite a rumpus, four or f...

On the back of watching the brilliant 'Not Quite Hollywood', managed to find a copy of Next of Kin, Truly creepy atmosphere, reminded me of The Orphanage, with a great OTT climax. Long Weekend is pretty damn good also. Excellent acting, and a weird genuine sense of menace which is pretty unique. Nic...

Thought this was a pretty good little b movie picture. I liked the fact that the food and cat litter was for the film's ala vanishing unpleasant ending. With a little more violence onshow from the traffickers, this could have been even better. As for Repo, the less said the better, quite easily the ...
