I watched it at home and it worked. I think the app listens for cue points from the movie, basically the same as a teddy ruxpin from the 80s.

I saw app a year or so back, the second screen is not put to great use to be honest. You see a few texts and follow someone when they are off screen but a lot of the time it is nothing.
