Gruelling, bloody gorefest, although some of the editing / action sequences were indistinct, although this is by no means the only film this comment could be aimed at... 8 / 10

Plenty of zombie action, although possibly more cannibalism scenes like the zombie classics would have added more to it. 7.5 / 10

Good suspense and sequences early on, but the twist ending felt too much like a Jacob's Ladder rip-off. Perhaps focusing on the "dreamworld" would have been more interesting?? Some interesting political messages in there though. 7.5 / 10

Beware The Moon: Interesting documentary with some needed humour after The Horseman, although perhaps would have played better after the main film. 7 / 10

An American Werewolf In London: Classic. Perfect balance of humour, horror, suspense and tragic love. 10 / 10

Brutal, grim and harrowing, just the way I like them, with an excellent lead performance. I loved the ambiguity around the level of choice his daughter may or may not have had in the tragedy, and that the end villain may have called the ambulance too. 8.5 / 10

Some laughs (although a little hit and miss) and a reasonable story for this sort of film, but personally I prefer Eight Legged Freaks. I thought Brooke Nevin was good. 7/10

Some strong scenes (although in places it did seem to be cut) and many references to other movies. Perhaps tried to be too clever for its own good though. 7.5/10

Like many others, I found this was very similar to the superior Time Crimes and thought the internal logic didn't always seem to stand up on first viewing. 7/10

A bit of a catch-up: Orphan: Liked this one far more than I thought I would, despite guessing the twist. One of the better movies released this year. A Perfect Getaway: Another I enjoyed more than I thought, again despite guessing the plot twist (this time before even watching the film!). Inglouriou...

Cold Prey II: Resurrection: A decent sequel, albeit with no real surprises, but several effective and tense sequences. An interesting moral question is also posed early on. Overall, another solid addition to the burgeoning Norwegian horror scene. 7 / 10

Watched 3 films recently: The Mist has a host of familiar faces with some effective setpieces and sequences. The religious undercurrent also adds to this "supernatural" chiller which displays more intelligence than the average horror moive. A great ending too. 8 / 10 Boogeyman 3 is a so-so...

Catching up on old Frightfest films - last night it was the turn of Wild Country , a low budget Scottish wilderness survival horror. Despite the limitations of the low budget, it has a pretty decent storyline and reasonable special effects that seem to improve as the film goes on. Most of the charac...

Watched The Children last night for the first time. A deliciously dark and twisted tale of modern family life. An engrossing and enjoyable addition to a rapidly expanding sub-genre. 8/10

Saw Splinter last night, I'd give it 7.5 / 10. Some interesting ideas and creature, albeit not entirely original. Think The Thing meets Evil Dead!

It has its moments, but it could've been more tense and claustrophobic. Overall, enjoyable enough with the usual set-up for a sequel.
