Re: Your reactions to new films
A good horror film should ruin your appetite! If you find yourself feeling like a full english breakfast straight after an Italian Cannibal film, then it hasn't really achieved it's intended impact, and you're a bit weird. I'd be similarly surprised (even disturbed) if anybody was lighting candles a...

Re: Genre guidelines
I agree Greenaway's stuff, like The Cook, The Thief..., has a very creepy feel without actually being out and out horror, Zed and Two Noughts sticks in the mind, particularly for the large animals rotting at high speed to maddening music, sometimes things can freak you out enough to stay with you wi...

I like the idea of Squirrel Centipedes Just think of it; 15 feet long, 100 legs, 25 bushy tails, and the one at the front will need to eat a lot of nuts. An abandonned out of town acorn processing plant (they exist right?) forms the secret hideout of a deranged former vet, who was fired from his job...

Re: BEST film of DAY 5
The Dead was one of the best zombie films I've seen in a long, long time, but the Videonasties documentary was simply so important it made last year's fest for me, and permanently changed my outlook and attitude to censorship, a life changing history lesson that was also great fun to watch. (shame I...

Re: BEST film of DAY 1
Hatchet 2 delivered the good gory fun expected of it, but Primal was the more original and entertaining film for me.

I think iateabee has hit the nail on the head. Many great films simultaneously fall into several genre categories, Assault on Precinct 13 is both a police thriller and a western homage, but at the same time I will always list it up there with my favourite horror films, purely for its creepy, chillin...

The Last Broadcast - I've been meaning to see this for ages as I'm a sucker for Found Footage horror films and this represented a gaping hole in my collection. quote] What do you reckon is the best 'found footage' horror? It has got to be Cannibal Holocaust The blurred line between the fictional an...

Re: so what are y'all listening to while you read n type?
I have just heard the very sad news that true punk icon Poly Styrene has died at the age of 53 following a short battle with cancer. Singer and songwriter Poly Styrene (aka. Marianne Elliot-Said) fronted X-Ray Spex and her fearless, confrontational vocals and genuinely poetic lyrics secured the trul...

Re: Genre guidelines
Brilliant post there Mr. Bill, agree with you completely. Except for the bit about FrightFest films being always selected for extremity, I expect a large amount of that at FF but not every film. Plenty of room for Monsters and fun horror like Trick'r'Treat. BTW I personally think Serbian Film is a ...

Re: Genre guidelines
I think we might be agonising over the wrong two words, Horror and Thriller are not comparable, Horror is something a film (or book or whatever) is , while Thriller is something a film does . If a piece of art is essentially seen as a message with a sender and a receiver, one is implied and the othe...

Re: what dvds are we buying?
New films just arrived:
Due Date
Cuckoo
Outsourced
Dawn of Evil
Paranormal Activity 2
Stripped Naked
Travellers
Terror Trap
the last two look pretty interesting, though I've not heard much about them- they both have a kind of "could be awesome, could be dire" look about them.
