what are you reading?
The Dead by Charlie Higson, follow up to The Enemy. Young adult novels about kids trying to survive after a virus either kills everyone over 14 or turns them into cannibal psychos. Very grim and violent for young adult fiction, and not full of the humour you might expect from the creator of The Fast...

Human Centipede II
While I agree with Richard that it is difficult if not impossible to have an informed discussion about a film we haven't seen. I'm not about to give the BBFC a free pass just because they are now a more liberal organisation than the Ferman era. Not only have we not seen the film, we only have the se...

Nope, just the trailer and what I've read about it. To be honest, I'm not sure I want to see itAxe wrote:Anyone here seen The Bunny Game? Made in b/w - like HC2.

Human Centipede II
I think until the appeals process against the initial rejection is concluded we won't have any more information to go on as nether party will wish to be seen trying to influence or prejudice that. Fundamentally I think adults should be trusted to make their own viewing choices when it comes to enter...

Yeah, very strange behaviour from Smith. He's alienating the very grassroots film bloggers who might support a film like Red State.iateabee wrote:Ah, you were one of those foiled by Kevin Smith's bizarre Twitter tantrum?MaxRenn wrote:I didnt just see Red State

Re: Human Centipede II
What's most frustrating about this situation is that whatever your stance about the BBFC it is extremely difficult to make a considered judgement on the merits of the decisions to refuse The Human Centipede II a certificate as none of us have seen it. Which is I suppose the Catch 22 of classificatio...

Brilliant post there Mr. Bill, agree with you completely. Except for the bit about FrightFest films being always selected for extremity, I expect a large amount of that at FF but not every film. Plenty of room for Monsters and fun horror like Trick'r'Treat. BTW I personally think Serbian Film is a u...

Re: Genre guidelines
Generally I would take "thriller" to denote a plot where suspense, excitment and narrative momentum are the primary concerns. That works across genre, so you can have horror thrillers, comedy thrillers, SF thrillers, and so on. I really don't think there can be a generic distiction between...

Is Thriller a genre? I don't think so, it's a term used to describe everything from North By North West to Fatal Attraction to Lethal Weapon. Not a massive amount of crossover between those films. Often it's just what filmmakers and marketing depts call a film when they are too embarrassed to call i...

Been lucky enough to see an advance screening of Insidious, the new film from James Wan and Leigh Wannel and I want to shout about it till the timbers rattle. It's brilliant! I must have jumped about six times. Don't expect another Saw, there's no gore at all. But this is a brilliantly made spook sh...
