There are a few faults: some of the music choices don't entirely work either through style (they're originally from spaghetti wetsern scores and that's exactly what they sound like) or highly anachronistic (a David Bowie number), and there's a point in the film at which it diverts massively from kn...

A few comments on recently watched: Eastern Promises : All good. Gripping and concise, so there is little space for much to go wrong in this gangster story. Knocks The Brood out of my current Top 3 Cronenberg movies. 4*/5 Inglrteyiius Bzerdds : This is great exploitative alternative history war-gang...

Altered States : Had been on my 'to watch' list for over 9000 years. Jumps about a bit in tone. I thought this was going to go ABSOLUTELY BATSHIT CRAZY after the events that take place about an hour in. It regained some semblance of stability. Definitely worth a watch. Freaks : Interesting, with a ...

I'm enjoying the annual 6 week chunk off work - so am working through a pile o' DVDs: The Fly (1958) : I thought this was excellent - especially the ominous second act. HELP ME! Rabid : Effectively unsettling, protruding into the grim. The Brood : Enjoyed this - some quality scares and nice set piec...

Then why is it that I find CRANK 2 the most offensive movie of all time... I don't know... Is it that it's the celluloid equivalent of the most mysoginistic lad's mag dosed up on crack with an added infusion of racial stereotyping? I took it as a spoof and quite enjoyed it! I thought Crank 2 was no...

Some good choices! I'll have to give this some proper thought later on, but here are a few for now: Robocop - Evil goon drives into Toxic Waste/Face Melt/Hit by a Car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjEdLuqK1RQ I'll also choose one from City of the Living Dead , having seen it recently. I'll go for ...

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah : I picked this up on a US DVD, so it was aided by some laughable dubbing, with no option for the original language + subtitles. Featured a T2-inspired poker-faced android. Comical acting and the usual Godzilla FX. I found it useful to have something else to do when watch...

Thanks, it was more the Cannibal films I was after, but after just watching Cannibal Ferox - which was woeful, and not even laughably so, I think I'm done with that little tangent of early-eighties cinerama. For now at least.

Trying to get through a few movies I've missed over the years that I really should have seen by now (and a few strange ones thrown into the mix) - Caught up with these fellas over the weekend: Cannibal Holocaust : This caught me by surprise a bit. It had far higher production values than I had expec...

It'll be my first Frightfest, along with two of my buddies who are also first-timers. We watch a lot of movies, but have never considered heading to Leicester Square for FF before. Looking forward to it immensely though - getting together some ideas for a bit of a monster costume etc. I don't work i...

The same could be said for the criminal remake, to be fair - although you'd get differing responses.

Maniac

Features some nice Savini special effects and a crazy final act. Worth a watch if you like fat perverts chasing women through the subway. 3/5.

I HATE that lost chapter! I love the empty feeling of the end Your ending still exists and is just as valid as the author's ending, so don't feel too angry about it! It's nice to hear the ideas though. I also watched Videodrome for the first time last night (after only watching Scanners for the fir...

I just finished watching Peter Weird's Picnic at Hanging rock. Nothing much happened. OR DID IT? Meanbobs, have you heard about the lost chapter of Picnic at Hanging rock? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_of_Hanging_Rock Cheers for that - just read the synopsis - it's a nice, natural conclus...
