Re: Detention

I thought Detention was awesome. I admit it lives on the outskirts of the horror genre and stands up better alongside stuff like Scott Pilgrim or Hot Tub Time Machine, but for me it was the surprise joy of the fest. It was refreshing not to recognise any of the actors and fun trying to keep up with ...

Re: what dvds are we buying?

My weekly delivery just arrived, but without Quarantine 2 The fire at the Sony DADC warehouse on Monday will be having an enormous impact on many titles for some time to come. I have been told that at this time we do not know when normal service will be resumed, so expect many new releases to simply...

Re: films we just saw

Anything by Cronenberg doesn't suck, if someone says it does then they need to be kicked in the face by a Horse. Just sayin' That's my theory too! Better get training that horse then  As a responsible adult I find your light hearted comments amusing, but I think there is a genuine danger t...

Re: films we just saw

Just watched Super , an awesome film that might suit people who found Kick-Ass too mainstream and glamorous or Defendor too whimsical and moralised. Super doesn't hold back Animal Kingdom is pretty good too. Also watched Suckerpunch which was so wrong on every conceivable level that it made me angry.

Re: Your reactions to new films

I had to take two attempts at Martyrs too, but admittedly alcohol was involved the first time. Second attempt was watching with a girlfriend who had allready seen it and said that "it's best to see it as a dark comedy"! I can just about see where she's coming from, though I don't entirely ...

Just watched Middle Men and thoroughly enjoyed it, it's like the dark side of The Social Network.

Re: Human Centipede II

Purely for the sake of balance, here is U.K. distributor Eureka Entertainment's response to the BBFC's statement quoted above: “Within the last week, the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) announced that it had rejected and was unable to classify for release on DVD, The Human Centipede II (...

Re: Genre guidelines

Moon and Splice Care to elaborate? Without going spoilerific, how does it stick out as being uber? With a title like that I'm genuinely intrigued (and I am not a sci-fi fan). Thanks :-) I think Dave is talking about two seperate films (If I'm wrong then I share your curiosity, Moon and Splice is an...

Re: The Gaming Thread

It's true, for a game so long in development from such a major franchise, it felt like a Playstation 2 game in terms of graphics and slowdown. I could have forgiven this if it delivered the old school fun of something like Serious Sam, but sadly the Duke has joined the "I can only carry two gun...

Re: films we just saw

Just watched Drive Angry and enjoyed it for what it is, slick American trash.

I watched it in good old fashioned 2D, does anybody think films like this are worth the headache of wearing novelty glasses?

Re: The Gaming Thread

Has anybody else been extremely disappointed by the decidedly less than epic return of Duke Nukem? I actually got a little bit excited about 'the most long anticipated game in the history of the industry' and pre-ordered the 40 quid bastard expecting lost of fast paced, politically incorrect, childi...

Re: so what are y'all listening to while you read n type?

I'm going through a massive 90's revival phase at the moment, listening to old cassettes on a fifteen year old walkman. Can't stop listening to Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine working through the albums 101 Damnations 30 Something Post Historic Monsters and most of all 1992 The Love Album Lots of...

Re: films we just saw

Just put myself through a bleak hillbilly double with The Lost followed by White Lightnin'. Yee-haw.

Both were very good but not exactly a barrel of laughs, ended up watching The Task just for some light relief.

Re: Human Centipede II

Thanks Richard... I'll just take that as a no. I hadn't realised I was a slow student in your classroom, but seeing you now, as an overworked and exhausted supply teacher repeating himself for the umpteenth time and struggling to keep control of the younger, and more uppity kids bored complacent by ...
